Porsche's Taycan Wagons Have Left AmericaPorschePorsche had never produced a conventional wagon before the Panamera Sport Turismo, but it sparked a brief renaissance of long-roofed cars from Stuttgart. The brand took wagons to another level with its first electric car, offered in both the Sport Turismo and lifted Cross Turismo variants for much of its life. The Panamera wagon went away with the car's latest generation—and, unfortunately, the last Taycan wagons are now following, at least in America.A representative from the company's U.S. arm tells Road & Track that "Porsche focuses its product portfolio on the wishes of its customers, and in the United States, the Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo body styles of the Taycan played a minor role. It is for this reason that we have decided to discontinue these model variants."In other words, Taycan Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo sales have seemingly not been strong enough to justify the body style's place in Porsche showrooms. The timing is no shock, as a cooling market for performance EVs makes the Taycan's place as a leader in that segment less significant than it was when the car first debuted in 2019.PorscheWhat's especially disappointing is that this sad news comes while other high-end wagons are reaching new heights in the States. Both Audi and BMW have claimed that their mid-sized super-wagons, the RS6 Avant and M5 Touring, are selling well even in an American market that has long been considered wagon-averse. Mercedes also offers a performance mid-sized wagon, the E53 AMG, but it is a mid-grade AMG model that's not quite in line with its spectacular old V-8 E63.AdvertisementAdvertisementThat success has apparently not translated to the electric space, leaving little room in Porsche's lineup for the two quickest-accelerating wagons on Earth. The good news is that the Taycan and Panamera both live on as sedans. Taycan buyers willing to settle for a sedan get a bigger battery in more basic 2027 models and optional simulated shifts available on all new Taycans going forward. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
