Maybe the U.S. market for battery-electric vehicles isn't as dire as some of us thought. Despite automakers bleeding red ink from their EV investments, as well as the loss of federal tax credits and a White House that prefers internal combustion, we're seeing evidence that several automakers appear to be undeterred.General Motors has said it's staying the EV course, Ford just shared its plans for affordable EVs starting with a midsize pickup, and Toyota now has four EVs, including the three-row Highlander SUV that debuted last week. New Product On The Way This week, it's Volvo spinoff Polestar that is sounding quite bullish, with plans for four all-new or updated EVs, and Polestar PR in the U.S. confirms for TopSpeed that two of the four vehicles (a Polestar 4 variant and the smaller Polestar 7) are indeed coming to America. The Polestar 4 Coupe is already on sale in the U.S., but today the automaker says a different Polestar 4 is coming "based on the same great technology, targeting a wider customer base by offering more versatility." Polestar spokesman Mike Ofiara confirms this variant will go on sale in the U.S. later this year. Polestar 7 Comes To U.S. In 2028 Polestar The other U.S.-bound EV is one we've heard about for a while but has not yet officially broken cover. The Polestar 7 is billed as a compact, premium crossover, and Ofiara confirms it will arrive in 2028.But there are two more vehicles that other markets will get first, and it isn't clear if they will come to the U.S. That's the Polestar 5 four-door grand tourer and the next-generation Polestar 2 sedan that is expected to launch in select markets by 2027. It's made in China and is being evaluated for the U.S. Polestar 5 For The U.S.? Polestar "The initial launch locations for Polestar 5 will include 23 of our 28 active markets, and availability for customers in the U.S. will be announced at a later date," Ofiara tells TopSpeed. The teaser photo above shows the four EVs parked side by side in the curious order of Polestar 5, 4, 2, 7 — the last three behind frosted doors to prevent revealing too much. Although the Polestar 7 is billed as a compact crossover, it appears to be the largest of all four vehicles, or at least the tallest. One model that doesn't appear in the photo is the Polestar 3 compact crossover, which is still reasonably fresh in the U.S. and produced in South Carolina as well as in China. 'Profit Pools Are High' Polestar Polestar sold more than 60,000 EVs globally in 2025, which CEO Michael Lohscheller says was the brand's best sales year ever. "We are now launching the largest model offensive in our history, with four premium EVs coming to market within three years. We are targeting the heart of the EV market, where customer demand and profit pools are high."Lohscheller says Polestar will continue expanding its retail sales network, and he refers to the Polestar 5 as the brand's halo car with a lightweight bonded aluminum platform, while the Polestar 4 variant will combine the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV. Europe Loves Compact Electric SUVs “With Polestar 7 we are entering the largest EV segment in Europe, the compact SUV segment, which accounts for approximately one-third of total BEV volumes in 2025," Lohscheller says. "We are convinced that we can offer customers a progressive performance-driven car for a very attractive price point, built in Europe."Source: Polestar
