There’s nothing worse than going out to the parking lot only to find that your car has been damaged without any information left behind. Instead of accepting it as bad luck, a group of friends tracked down the hit-and-run driver. In a video that generated over 938,400 views as of this writing, content creator @its.truthhh went full investigation mode with her friends to identify the driver of a Halloween hit-and-run. "Why Would Y’all Do That To Me?" "My friend’s car got hit, so we finna go search for the person that hit her car," the TikTok begins. It is followed by on-screen text that reads, "POV: someone hit your friends PARKED CAR on Halloween." The damaged vehicle is visible in the background. After receiving a video from a neighbor, they discovered the hit-and-run was done by a driver in a black car. The group further reveals the damage done to the parked Nissan Altima. "The back of my car is missing," the owner says. The car was originally parked in the middle of the space and ended up crooked after being hit. "Why would y’all do that to me?" she continues. "Their mirror came off. Oh yeah, we finna find them," one says. Since it happened on Halloween night, the group speculates that the driver was drunk. The group starts exploring the parking lot; meanwhile, on-screen a song from Scooby-Doo plays. "Oh, we found them," one shares. The car they suspect of being involved in the hit-and-run is a Toyota Corolla parked in the same apartment complex. It has a missing passenger mirror with a busted front bumper. One of the friends places the mirror they collected from the wreckage into the missing passenger mirror slot. It's a perfect fit. Then the group records the license plate number and calls the police. What Happened After They Located the Toyota Corolla? In a follow-up TikTok, the group of women reveals that the incident was quite as they assumed. "It was not a hit-and-run. The police went to the dude's apartment and found him. He basically had already talked to the police.… He was driving too fast," one says. Turns out, the driver did damage to another car while speeding through the apartment complex. "He hit my car and my car hit another car, so somebody else's car is messed up too," she continues. The driver talked to the police, and both parties were instructed to have their insurance companies deal with the damages. Dealing with an auto accident is never fun and can be stressful, no matter the circumstances. Now, add the element of the accident being a hit-and-run, and it can certainly be deflating. Standard protocol for car accidents requires both drivers to exchange insurance information right after the accident. However, this can be difficult if the driver flees. According to State Farm, here are some dos and don’ts for dealing with a hit-and-run situation. When a driver flees the accident, it’s important to stay put to talk to any witnesses and the police when they arrive. It’s best to call 911 right away, especially if anyone is hurt during the accident. It’s essential to stay because gathering all available information will be helpful for the police and insurance company. This information includes the other driver’s license plate number, the time and location of the accident, the other vehicle's description, photos of your vehicle’s damage, and where the other vehicle was headed. Additionally, any eyewitness reports should be gathered. Things to avoid doing include chasing the fleeing driver or waiting to call the police and insurance company to file a police report or accident claim. Leaving the accident scene may cause missed eyewitness accounts. Plus, fleeing the scene puts into question who’s really at fault. While waiting, it’s best to file the police report and insurance claim to provide official information to jumpstart the investigation and compensation.
