Since its market launch last October, the battery-electric SUV has only been available in Germany as the GLC 400 4MATIC, featuring a 360 kW all-wheel-drive system and a 94 kWh battery. The list price is 71,281 euros.Shortly after order books opened, reports suggested Mercedes-Benz could expand the line-up with additional variants, including an entry-level GLC 200 EQ with rear-wheel drive and a smaller battery. However, the carmaker initially refrained from adding further powertrain options. That is now set to change. According to JESMB and MBpassion, Mercedes-Benz will open orders for two additional variants on 9 June, with first deliveries scheduled before the end of the year.Mercedes-Benz is initially set to introduce the GLC 250 EQ and the GLC 300 4MATIC EQ. The GLC 250 EQ is expected to feature rear-wheel drive and a 260 kW powertrain. The GLC 300 4MATIC EQ will retain all-wheel drive but deliver 310 kW, positioning it below the current GLC 400 4MATIC flagship.Despite their familiar model designations, the two new GLC variants differ from the electric versions in other Mercedes series. The CLA 250 with EQ technology and the GLB 250 with EQ technology, for example, both deliver 200 kW, while the CLA 350 4MATIC and GLB 350 4MATIC variants offer 260 kW.Both new GLC variants will use a smaller battery with 85 kWh of usable energy capacity instead of the larger unit fitted in the GLC 400 4MATIC. Mercedes-Benz already uses this battery in other electric models based on its new 800-volt architecture. The battery supports peak DC charging of up to 320 kW, enabling a charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes. AC charging power is capped at 11 kW, with a full charge taking around nine hours.Mercedes-Benz is also reportedly preparing two additional GLC variants for launch later this year. One of them is expected to be the GLC 300+ EQ, which will combine the 94 kWh battery from the GLC 400 4MATIC with a 270 kW rear-wheel-drive powertrain.Below that, Mercedes-Benz is said to be planning another entry-level variant with a 230 kW rear-wheel-drive system. According to reports, this model will use the smallest battery in the range, offering 64 kWh of usable energy capacity.Prices for the two variants available for order later this month, as well as the two additional versions expected later this year, have not yet been announced.jesmb.de, mbpassion.de (both in German)
