Mechanic Rob (@that_mechanic_guymn) posted a viral video that now has over 14,700 views.The mechanic said in his video that the claim was submitted for a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The timing belt needed replacing, as the truck had been rattling constantly, and he sent a video to the warranty company to show what was wrong with the pickup truck.But the mechanic said that the warranty company wanted him to work for free and then make the owner of the Ford pay for the repair. The last thing he wanted was for the customer to have to pay up when the warranty should have covered the repair. Rob's efforts drew high praise from commenters as he tried to fight for the customer.This Is What Happened to the MechanicThe timing belt on the truck had been rattling for a long time, and it needed replacing. Rob had even sent the warranty company a video showing the problem. This is when the company said Rob should work for free. "I don't turn wrenches without getting paid. If you are the one requesting it, guess what? You're the one paying me. The customer isn't. It is your responsibility because you want us to tear it down to that point," he said, clearly frustrated.Rob then accused the warranty company of not wanting to replace the worn timing belt components. "They're rattling, and it's the chains slapping those tensioners. Guess what is going to happen? The guides are going to fail," he said. Rob reaffirmed that the entire engine could need replacing if they didn't approve the work on the timing belt. The customer service representative kept asking for more pictures of the belt, but Rob wasn't having any of it."I'm a certified mechanic, are you?" he asks on the phone. Incredibly, the warranty provider then only approves moving forward with replacing the phasers on the truck and still wants a photo of the timing belt before approving that. It baffled Rob more and more, and he continued to express his frustration. Something that he didn't really have to do. "Trust me, we greatly appreciate you," one TikTok user said. "After-market warranty suck," a second added. Others also revealed their own issues after dealing with problematic warranty companies. "Obviously fired up, but you don't get anything accomplished talking to people like that," one said. However, Rob came back and even confirmed that the warranty company had decided to pay up.
