Mazda's smallest crossover may be dealing with some rough sales in the US, but overseas, the CX-30 is still a pretty popular offering. It's not surprising, then, that the European market will get a mildly updated version of the compact SUV for the 2027 model year. What may be a little more unexpected is the fact that some of those changes include a few options the US market received in 2026. Along with a few Europe-specific tech and safety refinements, the updates should keep owners happy even after they've grown accustomed to its sleek design and high-quality interior. You'll Never Notice The Changes Mazda's European arm says that the 2027 CX-30 features "refined design details," but as far as we can tell, the SUV is cosmetically identical to its 2026 counterpart – in fact, the automaker reused images of the American-market 2026 CX-30 in its announcement of the 2027 model, so we can't imagine any big alterations are on the horizon. The recently announced Zinc Green will make the jump from the MX-5 Miata sports car, and the European market will also get Aero Grey as an option; it's already found in the US-market 2026 CX-30.MazdaYou'll find the most compelling evidence of the 2027 update inside, where a new Makoto trim level will be available to customers on the Continent. Comprising light gray cloth on the seat centers and white faux leather on the bolsters and gussets, the Makoto's changes seem mostly limited to the upholstery, but we always like the sophisticated, modern look of a nicely woven textile. That said, we're fairly certain the new trim is identical to the US market's 2026 Aire Edition, which also gets gray and white cloth and leatherette upholstery. Also new for 2027 in Europe is a nicely equipped "Homura Plus" trim level, whose US-market equivalent would likely be the Premium Plus. A Little Safer And A Little Smarter In addition to the revised color and trim changes, Mazda also improved the 2027 CX-30 for the European market with better advanced safety features. That starts with an updated and improved Smart Brake Support system. The automatic emergency braking feature can now detect motorcyclists, and its ability to monitor intersections has been improved as well so it can avoid accidents that drivers may not see. The automatic LED headlights also get some improvements to ensure good forward visibility for the driver without dazzling other motorists with road glare.Mazda Representatives from Mazda Motor of America weren't able to confirm if any of those changes would also apply to our market's 2027 CX-30, which will be detailed closer to the end of this calendar year. However, they did say that the existing CX-30 has been the recipient of "a handful of updates" to its tech and safety suite in the last two or three years, so it's possible next year's model will be even more advanced. CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters: Mazda USA intentionally reduced sales and availability of the CX-30 last year in order to protect its US profits from challenging Trump administration tariffs, but in countries where overseas production isn't taxed as highly, the compact crossover still does just fine, money-wise. Slight improvements for 2027 show that Mazda is still committed to the CX-30, even if only in those other markets.Despite that, America remains Mazda's single largest market, representing about a third of its total sales all around the world. It heartens us that Mazda is borrowing some of our region's offerings – like that Aire/Makoto Edition mixed-material upholstery – and bestowing them on the world, giving us hope that there's still some kind of future for the US-market small SUV.Source: Mazda
