ToyotaIf you buy a brand new car, the expectation is that everything will work straight out of the box. That sounds reasonable enough, and it is pretty much a guarantee that this will be the case. So imagine one man's shock when his new car suddenly suffered a blacked-out dashboard, not long after taking the car home. The story was published by Brooke English Guy, @brookebuyscars on TikTok, who is the manager of the dealership that suffered this problem in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. She documented the story, which has had over 2,000 views at the time of writing, and explained how she and the dealership felt very bad about the incident. In the video, she detailed how the customer had gone into the dealership seeking a new car to replace their old one, which had multiple issues. The man in question was incredibly happy to finally get a new car that would allow him a smooth driving experience.AdvertisementAdvertisementUnfortunately, the issues with the new car began almost as soon as the new owner drove the car out of the dealership. As General Manager, Brooke felt responsible for what had happened and recounted the story in good detail on her TikTok account. What Happened to the New Car After It Left the Dealership?Brooke spoke about what happened, detailing that the customer came in seeking a new motor. His old car had developed all sorts of issues, so it was time to part ways with it. Sadly for him and the dealer, the issues with the car began almost as soon as he drove off with the vehicle.According to Brooke, the dashboard suddenly went totally blank on the owner, not long after taking the car home. Not a single thing worked, and that naturally alarmed and upset the guy who had bought it. “Their dash just went completely blank. Obviously upset,” Brooke said in her TikTok video. “I feel so bad,” she added afterwards, as she really felt the man's pain.“You have to put yourself in their shoes," she went on to say. "Look, if I was expecting my brand-new car to work—which, I mean, yeah, that’s why you buy a brand-new car—and it doesn’t, there’s definitely a good reason to be upset,” she added. At the time of writing, the car is now back at the dealership, as they try to diagnose the issue. “I hate it for them. They were expecting to have zero issues, and now it’s like two months later and already having issues,” concluded the manager. Why Did the Dashboard Suddenly Fail?Mercedes-BenzA failure like this, so soon after the car was bought, does seem quite crazy. A few viewers on the social media app gave their thoughts on the situation. One of them blamed the complex touch screens that most modern cars have, which could have led to an overall failure of the dashboard in the new car.AdvertisementAdvertisement“I worked at a car lot last year. The magic touch screens have a 20 percent failure rate. Get the warranty from the dealer, not TV,” they said. A 20 percent failure rate is quite significant, and modern displays in cars are far more complex than they used to be. An electronic failure of some sort does sound like the most likely scenario here.Other uses also waded in, complaining about the general lack of quality they feel is in modern vehicles. “The quality of all brands has gotten extremely disappointing given the extremely high prices they charge for them,” one said. Not long after, publication Motor1 reached out to Brooke regarding the issue, and she was able to release an update on the customer's car.The Dealership Revealed What Went Wrong With the New CarErik Mclean/UnsplashAn aftermarket radar device had been plugged into the car. But rather than remove it overnight, the device had been kept in, and it started to drain the battery. That eventually led to the dashboard on the car going out, potentially blowing a fuse in the process. Even though the problem wasn't a warranty issue, Brooke confirmed that the dealership would front the costs of the repair and hoped to keep the customer happy. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don’t miss what’s coming next.
