Mahindra Thar OG Debuts With ELD, More Diesel GruntOff-Road.comAlta MLThu, September 24, 2026 at 9:00 AM UTCAdd us on GoogleTHAHThe latest 3-door Thar wears a new name, the Thar OG, and Mahindrahas priced it from Rs. 10.32 lakh ex-showroom. The updates run deeper than a badge change, touching the platform, the drivetrain, and the off-road hardware that matters to wheelers.New platform, revised suspensionThe Thar OG rides on the M-GLYDE 4G platform that debuted under the 5-door Thar Roxx, its frame built from lighter high-strength steel that Mahindra says improves stiffness and torsional rigidity. Its rear axle carries the Roxx's Pentalink setup with Watt's link, while the DaVinci dampers with frequency-dependent damping (FDD) - a piece introduced on the XUV 7XO earlier this year - are new to the truck. Track width is wider than the outgoing truck, and the wheels grow to 19-inch alloys.Off-road hardware and steeringThe Thar OG swaps the old hydraulic steering for electric power steering (EPS), which makes low-speed maneuvering easier on the trail. The 4X4 gear now adds a rear electronic locker (ELD), plus three selectable terrain modes: Mud, Sand, and Snow.More power across the rangeAll three engines carry over, with output bumps on the two larger units across rear-wheel-drive and 4X4 variants. The 1.5L D117 CRDe still makes 117 BHP and 300 Nm in manual guise. The D22 2.2L mHawk diesel now produces 150 BHP and 330 Nm, up from 130 BHP and 300 Nm. The G20 2.0L mStallion turbo petrol is rated at 160 BHP and 330 Nm, up from 150 BHP and 300 Nm in the MT. A 6-speed manual remains the standard gearbox, with a 6-speed torque converter automatic on offer.Braking, safety, and cabinStopping power comes from discs at all four corners, backed by an enhanced ESP suite and six airbags - two front plus four HPTS units (head, pelvis, thorax, and shoulder) covering both rows. Inside, there's new Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery and a second-row armrest with cupholders. Mahindra says it worked on reducing NVH but did not specify details. Styling changes include a new grille with 'Thar' badging, new bumpers front and rear, and LED headlamps carrying C-shaped daytime running lights. Cornering-capable ice-cube-style LED fog lamps round out the front-end lighting. The truck launches in three trims: AXT, LXT, and ZXT.
