The Lepas L4 has been sighted in Malaysia ahead of the Chery offshoot brand’s launch in the first half of 2026. A post in the paultan.org Automotive/Car Discussion Group on Facebook shows the SUV taking part in a video shoot without any camouflage. The current Lepas line-up is styled following what the brand calls the ‘Leopard Aesthetic’, with key design cues being slim daytime running lights that are meant to evoke a leopard’s focused eyes, while the sides feature three distinctive lines that point to the muscles of the big cat’s front arms, hind legs and lower abdomen. The smooth and simple surfacing is said to be inspired by pottery. While the design approach is similar across the L8, L6 and L4, each gets its own distinctive face so you can tell them apart. In this case, the L4 is identified by its front grille that features chrome pins “expanding out” from the Lepas badge, with the surrounds sporting a patterned design near the main headlamps. The larger L6 gets this same grille too but its lower apron is “tamer” compared to the L4, which has more angular shapes as well as a lower intake with a mix of diagonal and vertical slats. The L4 also doesn’t get black cladding for its wheel arches like the L6 and L8. In terms of size, the L4 measures 4,406 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,635 mm tall, with the overall length being more than cars like the Honda HR-V, Proton X50, Mitsubishi Xforce, Chery Omoda O5 and Tiggo Cross as well as the Perodua Traz. The Toyota Corolla Cross is longer than the L4, but the latter has a superior wheelbase (2,700 mm vs 2,640 mm). As for powertrains, the L4 in South Africa features a 1.5 litre turbocharged engine rated at 147 PS and 225 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. According to Car Magazine, the L4, along with the L8, will launch in South Africa around March this year.
