The 2023 edition of Top Marques Monaco once again showcased some of the world's most exclusive supercars, motorcycles, and luxury watches, but one vehicle stood apart because it was created entirely as a personal dream project rather than a commercial production model. The hypercar, known as the CID Babieca, was designed and built by Spanish creator Jose Cabrerizo over a period of seven years. According to longtime friend Serge Durand, the project originally existed only for Cabrerizo himself and was never intended for public attention or large scale manufacturing. After retiring, Cabrerizo decided to dedicate himself fully to building the ultimate car inspired by every vehicle he had admired, owned, or worked on throughout his life. What makes the CID Babieca especially remarkable is that nearly every part of the car was handcrafted by Cabrerizo alone, including the chassis, bodywork, and countless small details. Rather than assembling existing components into a custom build, he approached the project like an artist creating a one of a kind sculpture with engineering precision. The hypercar also features a heavily modified Mercedes based engine producing around six hundred horsepower after extensive performance upgrades increased output significantly. Beyond performance, the cars identity is deeply connected to Spanish history because the company name CID references the legendary medieval knight El Cid, while Babieca was the name of his famous war horse. This historical inspiration gave the hypercar a personality rooted in mythology, craftsmanship, and national heritage rather than simply speed or luxury. The project demonstrated how automotive passion can evolve into deeply personal artistic expression through engineering, design, and historical storytelling in the modern hypercar world today.Unlike many modern hypercars developed by major automotive manufacturers with enormous engineering teams and financial backing, the CID Babieca represents the vision of a single individual pursuing complete creative freedom without commercial pressure. Serge Durand explained that producing another vehicle like this would be extremely difficult because of the enormous amount of handcrafted work required for every component. The current car mainly serves as a showcase model demonstrating what Cabrerizo achieved through dedication, patience, and technical skill over several years of independent work. However, there remains a possibility that a very limited production run of around ten cars could eventually become reality if conditions allow. Even then, Durand admitted such vehicles would carry extremely high prices because recreating this level of craftsmanship on a larger scale would require substantial resources and time. What makes the project especially fascinating is how it reflects the emotional side of automotive design rather than purely business driven goals. Cabrerizo did not begin the project to compete with established brands or dominate the hypercar market. Instead, he created the car as a deeply personal expression of his lifelong passion for engineering and performance vehicles. The result is a machine that blends mechanical performance with artistic individuality and historical symbolism. At events like Top Marques Monaco, where luxury and exclusivity dominate the atmosphere, the CID Babieca attracted attention because it represented authentic personal creativity instead of corporate branding.
