Winter gloves without all the bulkin gear alpinestars bogota drystar xf glove reviewThe Alpinestars Bogota touring line targets serious, all-weather distance riders. Even though I'm not an adventure rider, I appreciate the concept of a high-end adventure setup because it also works out well for touring rides. My issue has always been with winter gloves. Standard bulked-up winter mitts are usually thick and bulky to both keep the rain out and keep the digits warm. I wanted a true, full-length adventure glove that offers heavy-duty weather protection without sacrificing a precise, tactile feel on the grips. Enter the Alpinestars Bogota Drystar XF Gloves. This pair combines a softshell backhand construction with an ergonomic layout to give you a flexible package that's ready for a little bit of everything, assuming it's not hot out.Alpinestars Bogota Drystar XF Gloves Review | Ultimate Adventure Hand Protection? To be perfectly transparent, while I have long worn Alpinestars gear, the gloves over the years have been a bit of a mixed bag, with some hits and a few misses on sizing and long-term durability. However, my time so far with the Bogota Drystar XF has been (mostly) positive. These gloves feature technical stretch inserts that map out an impressively comfortable fit right out of the box. They cater to a broad spectrum of riders, with sizes scaling from SM up to 3XL, and are available in a clean, understated Black/Black colorway. When it comes to technology and protection, Alpinestars packed these with a heavy punch. The headline feature is the proprietary Drystar XF laminated membrane, which is engineered for waterproof performance and high breathability, backed by 80g of PrimaLoft Silver insulation to fight off the chill. Flip them over, and you'll find a reinforced synthetic suede palm coupled with durable goat leather on the fingers for premium abrasion resistance. For impact defense, they boast a fully certified CE Level 1 Knuckle Protection system utilizing a seamless, over-injected design, alongside Alpinestars' signature finger bridge to prevent finger separation if things go sideways.AdvertisementAdvertisementThat said, trying to build a glove that does everything usually means making a compromise somewhere, and here, the ventilation is mediocre at best. When the mercury climbs, the Drystar XF membrane and insulated lining can quickly make things feel pretty stuffy and clammy, so don't expect a refreshing rush of cool breeze on mid-summer rides. To be fair, these are not meant to be summer gloves. But does their high-level armor, premium feel, and surprisingly comfortable fit make up for the lack of airflow?
