A mobile car detailer showed off a customer’s Hyundai, prompting folks online to wonder how someone managed to get their car so dirty. T&B Premium Detailing (@tbpremium) posted a viral TikTok clip containing footage of the clean. "It’s crazy in there," the Hyundai owner says as he steps outside of the vehicle and greets the man behind the camera. Following this, the clip then cuts to the vehicle’s inside, and it’s a grisly sight. Its cupholders are coated in dirt and debris, eliciting a guttural reaction from the auto cleaning pro. "I’mma have to charge you the full bro," he tells the driver, who immediately acquiesces, understanding the condition his ride is in. What’s even more astounding is that the TikToker tells his viewers that the customer in question is a "maintenance client," meaning this individual gets his car cleaned every two months. In the video’s description, the car cleaner writes that winter weather delayed the detailing work on this particular model. After giving an overview of the car's condition, he removes the floor mats and begins vacuuming the carpet. Next up are its seats and various nooks and crannies, followed by a spray down, wipe, and brush of the ride’s door panels and upholstery. He makes his way to the vehicle’s cupholders, too, and toward the end of the video, he shows off before-and-after photos of the car’s different areas, which display a marked difference. With the interior cleaned, he moves on to the car’s exterior aesthetic. He coats its tires with a shine and then powerwashes them clean. Next, he coats the body with a car-washing detergent, kicking up the car’s windshield wipers before doing so, and repeats the process, leaving the customer with a shiny ride, devoid of fog marks, road salt residue, and grime. ‘I Can Only Imagine His Home’ Several folks who replied to T&B Premium Detailing’s video couldn’t believe the vehicle's condition. Many remarked that they were stunned to see how dirty the man’s car was in between washes. One wondered, "Did he give af about the car?" Whereas another remarked, "Yeah he making you work for that money." Others remarked on how impressed they were with the cleaning service and asked for details about the company’s mobile cleaning setup. In the video's comments, the TikToker noted that he does indeed travel with a portable water supply. He added that he coats the vehicle’s down with an APC pre-spray and Flex Ice and Flex Citrus powdered upholstery cleaner. In terms of how long an undertaking like this takes, the TikToker remarked that he spends around three to three and a half hours when he’s cleaning a vehicle by himself. But when he has an additional person helping, it runs anywhere from two to two and a half hours. Benefits Of Keeping A Car Clean Regular car washes do more than just maintain a vehicle’s aesthetic appearance, but can come with a range of functional advantages as well. The car service business Heart Auto Care writes that routine washes help preserve a car’s paint job. That’s because "dirt, grime, and other contaminants can settle on … [a] car’s surface and damage its paint over time," the business writes. Leaving waste on a ride may lead to corrosion and paint chipping, ultimately damaging one’s vehicle. Consequently, your ride’s resale value can dip significantly, netting you less cash if you opt to sell or trade it in. Furthermore, regularly cleaning one’s windshield and windows can help ensure proper visibility when driving. And the same goes for headlight covers, giving drivers better visibility of the road with more illumination when commuting in dark or overcast conditions. Heart Auto Care also notes that consistent washing makes it easier to see any potential damage on your car. This way, any problems with your car can be addressed sooner, rather than later, if the problem exacerbates. Clean Cars Get Better MPG? While it may seem like a stretch to some that a cleaner car would clock in better fuel-efficiency ratings, it turns out this is indeed the case. In the 127th episode of "Mythbusters," the show’s hosts Adam and Jamie compared the miles per gallon recorded on a car when it was dirty, and then when it was freshly washed. As it turns out, the cleaner vehicle actually recorded two more miles per gallon of fuel compared to when it was covered in grime: 24 vs. 26. Popular Mechanics, however, noted that the show’s "dirty" experiment car was "covered … until it looked like the Jeep at the end of Jurassic Park." So, unless you’re rolling around in a ride with a bunch of extra weight that severely alters its aerodynamics, regular cleaning may not significantly impact your whip’s fuel efficiency. But there are still many who advocate for cleaning one’s ride in order to improve its aerodynamics. Absolute Auto Repair champions this point, stating that the more pristine a ride is, the better it’ll cut through the air, which should translate to savings at the pump. This car washing business also extolled the gas-saving benefits of a clean car in this blog post, too. Motor1 has reached out to T&B Premium Detailing via email for further comment.
