Known as the Avante in its home market of South Korea, the new generation of the compact sedan isn't so compact anymore. At the time, however, no specs were revealed, and the interior was still kept a secret.Fast forward to today, and Hyundai has opened up reservations for the Avante in South Korea, and the orders are pouring in. Within 24 hours, the new car managed to bag 11,094 reservations, surpassing the record set by the previous-generation model in 2020. With that, the specifications for the eighth-gen Elantra have also been revealed.HyundaiAn Improved HybridThe launch models for the 2027 Hyundai Elantra/Avante will consist of either pure combustion or hybrid power. There are no sporty N and N Line models just yet, but we can expect those models down the line. In the meantime, it's a choice between 2.0-liter gas or 1.6-liter hybrid. Gas-powered Avantes get a CVT, while hybrids are paired with a dual-clutch.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe 2.0-liter is good for 147 hp and 132 lb-ft, which is typical for a relatively conventional ICE powertrain. As for the hybrid, the electrified 1.6-liter produces a combined output of 155 hp, with an electric motor that churns out 150 lb-ft and an engine that puts out 106 lb-ft on its own. The horsepower number is noticeably higher than the outgoing model, which has 138 hp. The extra power and torque are welcome, especially once it lands in North America.HyundaiLeveled-Up InteriorThe interior of the current Elantra is aesthetically pleasing but let down by low-rent materials. It seems that Hyundai took that criticism personally, but the cabin of the redesigned model wouldn't look out of place in a Sonata. Dare we say it, but it's a night-and-day difference.We see a lot of what appears to be padded materials, so we're expecting this car to feel far richer inside than its rivals. There's an interesting digital display by the base of the windshield, similar to BMW's Panoramic Vision, but this one is more like a physical head-up display.As for the infotainment screen, it boasts Hyundai's Pleos Connect operating system that features Gleo AI Assistant, an app market, and the ability to be updated over the air. Also, we're glad to report that it still has a good amount of physical dials and buttons on the dash - as promised by Hyundai.HyundaiOther HighlightsFor the South Korean market, the 2027 Avante is offered in three trims. These are Modern (base), Premium (mid), and Inspiration (top), and it applies to both ICE and hybrid models. Of course, we can expect the trim structure to be different for the North American market.AdvertisementAdvertisementPricing in its home market is worth mentioning, too, starting out at 23,980,000 won for the least expensive gas-only model, all the way to 36,990,000 won for the range-topping hybrid with just about everything equipped.
