Honda has announced its plans to begin selling the Acura Integra Type S and the Honda Passport TrailSport Elite in Japan in the second half of this year, through a simplified certification system for passenger vehicles built in the United States by the Japanese ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism (MLIT). This is to enable the reverse-import of the US-built models in order to “accommodate the diverse needs of customers in Japan,” according to the statement by Honda. Both the Acura Integra Type S and the Honda Passport Trailsport Elite are made at the Honda Development & Manufacturing of America (HDMA) plant in Ohio, Alabama. The presence of both models in Japan was previewed at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 in January and the Osaka Auto Messe 2026 in February, where visitors to both shows expressed strong interest in both models and had expectations for a Japanese-market launch, according to the carmaker. The Integra Type S made its US market debut in April 2023, packing the K20C 2.0 litre VTEC Turbo inline-four cylinder engine that outputs 320 hp at 6,500 rpm and 420 Nm at 2,600 – 4,000 rpm, driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual and helical LSD, as on the FL5 Civic Type R. This tops the Integra range that launched in that market a year prior with a 1.5 litre VTEC Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine that made 200 hp and 160 Nm, paired with either a CVT or a six-speed manual. The second half of the Japan-bound duo, the Passport is a five-seater SUV also originally developed for the North American market and larger than the CR-V, and is powered by a 285 hp/355 Nm 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive with torque vectoring, and this TrailSport Elite variant rolls on 31-inch tyres and 18-inch wheels for heightened off-roading capability.
