The Honda Passport TrailSport Climbs to 9.7 Inches of Ground Clearance for 2027Road & TrackZac PalmerWed, September 9, 2026 at 3:56 PM UTCAdd us on Google2027 Honda Passport TrailSport Gets a LifthondaIt's only been one year since Honda launched its latest generation Passport, but the 2027 Passport TrailSport variant is already picking up a massive upgrade. The big news for this soft-roader is a reengineered suspension that offers much better off-road performance, and Honda promises on-road driving is improved, too. Note that this update only applies to the TrailSport model, meaning regular Passports march on unchanged.hondaWe found the Passport TrailSport to be a lovely companion off-road in our soft-roader comparison test, where the Honda took the victory, but the biggest benefit to this update is even greater capability off-road. To that end, the 2027 TrailSport has 1.38 inches of additional ground clearance, now sitting at 9.65 inches. The approach angle is better by two degrees, departure angle by two degrees, and breakover angle by three degrees.AdvertisementAdvertisementHonda claims this lift is the result of more than just some taller springs. "Nearly 70 percent of the major suspension components were redesigned," the automaker says. Changing the height of a car can have big impacts everywhere, and Honda wanted to make sure the Passport still had proper suspension geometry for on-road ride and handling. To that end, the new TrailSport has new springs, dampers, control arms, stabilizer bars, knuckles, front driveshafts and front subframe. That's a laundry list of new parts, and we suspect the car will drive a good bit differently with them. Surprisingly, Honda believes the new parts offer better steering feel and response on the road, a claim we're looking forward to testing.hondaTo pair with the new parts, Honda installed more pronounced fender flares in front and rear for TrailSport models. It also has a redesigned lower front fascia and a pair of amber LEDs in the hood scoop. There's a new Smoke Blue Pearl exterior paint option you'll be able to select, too.Inside, it's business as usual, though Honda points out the TrailWatch camera previously standard on the TrailSport Elite is now standard on the base TrailSport trim. The same applies to the heated steering wheel.hondaHonda says the updated Passport TrailSport will hit dealerships later this month—so if you want the more capable off-road version, be on the lookout for a 2027 model. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
