Honda recalls 880,000 SUVs and trucks over rear suspension ( Brandon Bell / Getty Images)American Honda is recalling approximately 880,514 Honda and Acura vehicles in the U.S. to inspect and, if necessary, repair or replace rear subframe components that may corrode and cause rear suspension failure. The recall covers 2016–2022 Honda Pilot, 2017–2023 Honda Ridgeline, 2019–2023 Honda Passport, and 2014–2020 Acura MDX vehicles, the company said. All affected vehicles were sold in states where de-icing agents are used on roads — including Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, among others, according to ABC News. The defect stems from improper coating specifications on the rear subframe. In regions where road salt is common, the subframe can corrode at suspension mounting points, potentially causing rear control arm or lower arm attachment points to fracture and fail, the company said. That failure could cause drivers to lose control of the vehicle, raising the risk of a crash or injury, according to Reuters. Honda estimates that just 1% of recalled vehicles actually have the defect.AdvertisementAdvertisementAs of May 28, 2026, Honda said it has received no warranty claims and no reports of injury or death related to the issue in the U.S.At no cost to owners, Honda and Acura dealerships will examine the rear subframe and, depending on its condition, either fit it with a reinforcement kit or carry out full component repair or replacement, the company said. Honda plans to begin mailing notification letters to affected owners on July 7. Vehicle owners can reach Honda customer service by phone at 1-888-234-2138, or look up their vehicle at recalls.honda.com or recalls.acura.com. NHTSA has assigned campaign number 26V367000 to this recall. The recall is the latest in a series of safety actions Honda has taken in recent months. The company issued a separate recall of nearly 99,000 vehicles in late May over a front passenger seat weight sensor defect that could cause airbags to deploy inappropriately for children or small adults. Earlier that month, Honda recalled nearly 60,000 electric SUVs — including Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX models — over a rearview camera defect linked to water intrusion. Honda also recalled more than 440,000 Odyssey minivans in April over a software flaw that could cause side and curtain airbags to deploy without warning.
