Helderburg has built a name for itself by treating classic Land Rover Defenders less like restoration projects and more like ground-up engineering exercises. Its latest completed commission, a Defender 110 nicknamed Lange, is currently listed for sale on Helderburg's site and shows exactly why. The truck was built for a Texas ranch owner who wanted something equally comfortable crossing thousands of acres of open land and cruising into town for dinner. The story behind Lange started when its original owner went looking for a shop that could deliver genuine ranch capability without giving up highway manners, a combination that's tough to nail in a truck that dates back to the 1990s. Rather than building from a list of catalog parts, Helderburg says it began by studying exactly how the vehicle would be driven and engineered every major system around that reality, from the drivetrain down to the glass.Photo credit: HelderburgPower comes from a Helderburg Performance Tuned 300Tdi turbo-diesel, which the company says produces roughly 42 percent more output than a stock 300Tdi while keeping the mechanical simplicity diesel fans prize. It's paired with a five-speed manual, a combination built more for durability and long-haul comfort than outright speed, which makes sense for a truck expected to rack up miles on remote roads far from a dealership.AdvertisementAdvertisementHelderburg also redesigned the suspension from scratch, adding progressive-rate springs along with upgraded shocks, sway bars, and stabilizers to keep body roll in check on washboard ranch trails and highway curves alike. A matching performance brake package rounds out the mechanical work, giving the driver more confident stopping power for the sudden stops that come with livestock or wildlife wandering into the road.Photo credit: HelderburgInside, Lange pairs Helderburg's signature Scottish leather, finished in deep saddle brown with diamond quilting, alongside heated front seats, a bespoke premium audio system, and a climate system strong enough for Texas summers. The current owner also upgraded the truck with Helderburg's wider-stance wheel package, running the company's five-spoke beadlock wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich KM3 tires for a more purposeful stance.Photo credit: HelderburgPaul Potratz, founder of Helderburg, described the philosophy behind builds like Lange as treating the drivetrain, chassis, glass, and interior as one system rather than a pile of bolt-on parts, resulting in what he called "an original, ground-up design" tailored to how the owner actually lives and drives.Completed in May 2024, Lange has covered just 4,137 miles since it left Helderburg's shop. It's had a single owner from new, has always been garaged, and has never been smoked in, with the paint and interior both said to show almost no wear. So why is a truck this fresh already back on the market? According to Helderburg, the owner commissioned a larger Defender 130 shortly after taking delivery of Lange, and the bigger truck became his everyday ranch vehicle, leaving Lange driven far less than he originally planned.AdvertisementAdvertisementHelderburg lists Lange at $308,400, well under the roughly $387,000 the company says a comparable build would cost today, and notes that a similar commission from scratch would take 12 to 14 months to complete. The truck is currently located in northwest Arkansas and remains covered under Helderburg's seven-year concierge program.
