It’s that time of year again, time for events across the country to show off electric vehicles at Drive Electric Earth Month. And it couldn’t come at a better time, as gas prices are spiking through the roof worldwide – which EV drivers haven’t had to worry about. Drive Electric Earth Month is an offshoot of Drive Electric Week, a long-running annual tradition hosting meetups mostly in the US, but also occasionally in other countries. It started as Drive Electric Earth Day, but since not every event can happen on the same day, they went ahead and extended it to encompass “Earth Month” events that happen across the month of April. It’s all organized by Plug In America, the Sierra Club, the Electric Vehicle Association, EV Hybrid Noire, and Drive Electric USA. Events consist of general Earth Day-style community celebrations, EV Ride & Drives where you can test drive several EVs in one place, and opportunities to talk to EV owners and ask them questions about what it’s like to live with an EV, away from the pressure of a dealership. This month, there are 175 events registered across the US, including events in both Hawaii and Puerto Rico, and even 1 event in Canada and 1 in Mexico. Events have been happening all month, but the biggest weekends are these upcoming ones, April 18-19 and 25-26, surrounding the Earth Day holiday. There are also some events during the week. Here’s a sampling of a few that looked like they could be interesting: Earth Day Walk at the National Mall in Washington, DC on April 18, 7am-1pm – EVs will be lined up along the route of an annual charity walk and green expo, demonstrating that not everything coming out of Washington right now needs to be anti-environment. Green Fest 2026 in Conshohocken, PA on April 18, 12-3pm – A family friendly Earth Day event with craft stations for kids, workshops to learn about environmental topics, and EV and e-bike displays. SLO Earthfest EV Expo in San Luis Obispo, CA on April 18, 11am-5pm – Several local dealers will give test drives, along with an area for owners to display vehicles and answer questions. Plus, the event is planning to run the food trucks, stage, and beer garden refrigerators off of EV power via V2L adapters – if enough EVs show up with this capability. Route 66 Recharged, End of the Trail in Santa Monica, CA on April 19, 11:30am-1:30pm – EV Youtubers The Electric Duo are driving their Mach-E across country and holding a meetup at the “End of the Trail” sign for Route 66 on the Santa Monica Pier, and inviting local Ford EV clubs to come talk about the experience. Sometimes rare EVs come out, like this Roadster in Hopkinton, MA in 2025. Photo: David Simpson UPRM EFPP Expo & Survey in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico on April 21, 10am-12pm – An event focused on students at the University of Puerto Rico, to explore EVs and potential career opportunities in e-mobility. I don’t recall having seen a Drive Electric event in Puerto Rico before, so had to highlight this one (there’s another one in Canovanas, PR on April 25) ELECTRATON DEEM’26 at UTEQ in Queretaro City, Mexico on April 25, 9am-4pm – A yearly event at the Technological University in Quetertaro, with an electric kart race alongside the EV expo. Drive Electric Earth Day Omaha in Omaha, NE on April 25, 11am-3pm – Alongside Omaha’s Earth Day celebration in Elmwood Park, there will be a display of EVs, e-bikes, and an electric transit bus. Melbourne, FL, 2025. Photo: Bill Bowden Montclair Earth Fest Drive Electric Event in Montclair, NJ on April 26, 12-4pm – Another event in conjunction with the city’s Earth Day festival, with music and EV displays and an opportunity to learn, and I quote, “why people who own an EV will never again drive a gasoline or diesel car.” Events in Regina and Saskatoon, in Saskatchewan, Canada, both in the month of May. Tall to Saskatchewanian EV owners about the province’s dumb EV tax, which the government is current trying to make even dumber, despite that the premier recently went to China to try to bring Chinese EVs to Canada. (I find that whole story to be so interesting) Each event has a different assortment of activities (e.g. test drives won’t be available at every event, generally just the larger ones attended by local dealerships), so be sure to check the events page to see what the plan is for your local event. Drive Electric Nashville, 2025. There will be another event at the same location this year. Photo: Justin Huff These events have offered a great way to connect with owners and see the newest electric vehicle tech, and even get a chance to do test rides and drives in person. Attendees got to hear unfiltered information from actual owners about the benefits and trials of owning EVs, allowing for longer and more genuine (and often more knowledgeable) conversations than one might normally encounter at a dealership. And if you’re an owner – you can show off your car and answer those questions for interested onlookers. Madison, NJ EV Expo, 2025 To view all the events and see what’s happening in your area, you can check out the list of events or the events map. You can also sign up to volunteer at your local events, and if you plan to show off your electric car, you can RSVP on each event page to get event updates, and also list your vehicle if you plan to show one (or see what other vehicles have already registered).
