forget the haters ferrari s controversial ev is a huge sales successWhen Ferrari unveiled the Luce in late May, the initial reaction was less of an applause and more of a collective intake of breath. Early critical reception was dominated by purist skepticism and intense debate regarding its visual direction. Designed under the guidance of former Apple design leads Jony Ive and Marc Newson via their firm LoveFrom, the €550,000 ($626,000) four-door, five-seater presented a radical departure from Maranello's historic aesthetic proportions.Yet, the balance sheet tells a vastly different story.According to sources cited by the Financial Times, Ferrari has already exhausted its initial annual production allocation for the Luce, reaching its full-year 2026 sales target of roughly 500 units. The entire quota was filled in less than two months, fueled primarily by high demand from the Chinese market.AdvertisementAdvertisementWhile Maranello's press office officially declined to comment, the automaker is scheduled to provide formal market reception details alongside its half-year earnings presentation.2027 Ferrari Luce EV: All The Details2027 Ferrari Luce EV: All The DetailsView Gallery23 photosAerodynamics and the Market ImperativeThe tension surrounding the Luce illustrates a classic rift between automotive traditionalists and ultra-luxury market dynamics. Beyond the shift away from Maranello's signature high-revving internal combustion engines, the car's exterior architecture proved to be the main lightning rod for early critics.Senior Ferrari executives have defended the design choices, noting that the silhouette was heavily dictated by strict drag coefficient requirements for a heavy, high-performance battery-electric vehicle. Company leadership suggested that the unconventional aesthetic simply requires time to be "digested" by the public.China Drives the Order BookFor Ferrari, commercial validation has arrived early where it matters most for this segment. China (a region where luxury buyers lean younger and display a higher appetite for tech-forward, electric platforms) appears to have absorbed a substantial share of the early production allocation.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe rapid sellout of the initial run proves that at the highest tier of the luxury market, brand cachet, performance metrics, and build exclusivity continue to outweigh design debates. For Maranello, the initial sales figures offer a solid baseline as it steps into the zero-emissions era, proving that the order book remains resilient even when traditionalists recoil.
