Ford has issued a recall for 2020 and 2021 Broncos ordered with the available factory hard top. The brand's filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicate that its roof material could crack or delaminate, potentially to such a severe degree that pieces may fly off while driving. Ford has recalled 15,045 units from the 2021 model year and another 1155 Broncos from the 2022 model year.No matter the model year, the recall covers both versions of Ford's Bronco: the two- and four-door models. Ford says that all models optioned with its "molded-in-color" roof are subject to the recall. Removable roof panels were compromised during production due to issues with Ford's supplier process and equipment. Ford says owners will notice progressive delamination, and the problem could also lead to more wind noise while driving. Eventually, the pieces could detach entirely.FordThe fix is predictable. Ford will replace the hard tops free of charge. This is not the first time Ford has recalled early Broncos for top issues. Many were built poorly by supplier Webasto, leading to recalls for poor quality and other problems. Ford says owners will be notified by November 5, 2026. Meanwhile, owners can cross-check their VIN with the NHTSA's website to determine if they're subject to the recall. This story was originally published by Men's Journal on May 27, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
