A Ford F-350 test truck was recently spotted in Dearborn, and it is raising more questions than answers. Riding on what appear to be 37 inch tires and finished in a matte tan color, the heavy duty pickup looks unlike anything currently offered in the Super Duty lineup. The big question is whether Ford is quietly evaluating a more aggressive off road variant beyond the existing Tremor package. Ford F-350 Test Truck Spotted in Dearborn ford-f-350-super-duty-sideWhat immediately stands out is the unique paint finish. The muted yellowish hue resembles Ford’s Desert Sand color first seen on the Bronco Everglades, but this example skews more yellow and features a matte finish. There were also subtle camouflage details like black tape covering portions of the front fascia lighting elements, as well as the indicators on the side mirrors. These small touches suggest that Ford may be testing revised lighting hardware or additional trim changes, such as the Raptor. The truck carries Lariat badging on the fender vents along with the Black Appearance Package. Interestingly, the tailgate appears to be sourced from a King Ranch model, but the trim is painted black to maintain the truck’s overall blackout theme. Off Road Hardware Goes Beyond Tremor Specs FordCloser inspection also reveals several off road focused components. The running boards appear to be borrowed from the Tremor package, while a 12,000 lb Ford Performance Warn winch is mounted up front. That winch is currently an optional upgrade for Super Duty buyers seeking additional recovery capability. However, the most significant feature of this standard Super Duty configuration lies in the tires. The current Tremor Off Road Package tops out with 35 inch Goodyear Duratrac all-terrain tires, and nothing larger is available from the factory….yet. Big Tires Raise Bigger Questions ford-f-350-super-duty-tiresThis test truck rides on Nitto Ridge Grappler hybrid terrain tires, with sidewalls that appear to read 37x11.50 R18 LT. Within Ford’s current lineup, factory 37 inch tires are limited to the F-150 Raptor and Bronco Raptor, both of which sit at the top of their respective off road hierarchies. The Super Duty range does not currently offer a comparable option, which means the presence of 37 inch tires on this F-350 suggests Ford is testing something even more ambitious, like a Super Duty Raptor. Is a Super Duty Raptor Under Consideration? ford-f-350-super-duty-rearFord executives have previously indicated that additional Raptor models could join the portfolio, though specifics have never been confirmed. In past interviews, a Super Duty Raptor was not ruled out if customer demand justified it. While this test truck stops short of wearing full Raptor branding, the larger tires, winch, Tremor components, and unique paint hint at something positioned above the current off road Tremor package. It may be an internal evaluation mule rather than a production variant, but it clearly pushes beyond anything listed in the current Super Duty configurator. What This Means for the Super Duty Lineup FordFor now, the appearance of this big tired F-350 remains unofficial. It could represent early testing of a higher tier off road Super Duty, or it may simply be Ford exploring capability limits for future updates.Either way, the presence of 37 inch tires alone signals that Ford is at least experimenting with more extreme heavy duty off road setups. If additional prototypes begin appearing with revised suspension components or more aggressive bodywork, the case for a Super Duty Raptor will be pretty obvious. But for now, we will be watching closely for more evidence of this new Super Duty development in the months ahead.
