Dodge Showing New Paint Options at Roadkill NightsDodgeDodge will be doing more than just burning rubber at this year's Roadkill Nights. The automaker is using the event to preview an expanded factory-customization program, display a colorful Durango concept, and roll out several new appearance package options for the Durango and Charger. The biggest headline is what it's calling Color Jailbreak, a program that's intended to bring custom factory paint options to more Dodge buyers. Similar paint programs were previously reserved for highly specialized (and expensive) models such as the Challenger SRT Demon 170 and Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak, but Dodge says it wants to make the Color Jailbreak accessible to a much broader audience.Pricing has not been announced, although Dodge says it is targeting a starting price for "the masses rather than the select few." More information is expected later this year.AdvertisementAdvertisementIn the meantime, Dodge is giving fans at Roadkill Nights a preview of what could be possible.Dodge Durango R/T 392 Smokescreen ConceptDodgeThe star of Dodge's customization display is its Durango R/T 392 Smokescreen Concept, a design study that combines special paint, graphics, wheels, and interior trim into one extremely blue three-row muscle SUV.The concept is finished in a hue that Dodge has dubbed Smokescreen, with a Cryo Blue graphic that begins near the front fascia and flows rearward along the body. Rather than wearing conventional R/T 392 badges, the Durango incorporates a subtle "392" graphic into the Cryo Blue pattern.Dodge carries that color onto the concept's 20-by-10-inch forged Y-spoke wheels, mirror caps, and SRT brake-caliper lettering. Amber accents and matching amber daytime running lights provide some contrast, while dark exhaust tips complete the look.AdvertisementAdvertisementWe hope you like blue, because the cabin continues the color scheme theme with Petrol Blue Laguna leather performance seats accented by dual silver stitching. Dodge also added a suede-wrapped performance steering wheel, a suede instrument-panel bolster, and carbon-fiber trim.Dodge will display the Smokescreen Concept at Roadkill Nights and use the event to gather feedback from enthusiasts. So, if you love—or hate—all that blue, Dodge wants to hear about it.New Tinted Dual Stripes Dodge is also giving the traditional muscle car stripe a more subtle twist.New tinted dual stripes are coming soon to both the Durango and Charger. Instead of using an opaque solid color, the factory-installed stripes have a translucent finish that allows the body paint to show through. The result is an effect that changes depending on the vehicle's exterior color. The stripes still run from nose to tail, but they should look more integrated with the paint than Dodge's conventional contrasting graphics.DodgeDodge will show the stripes on a Durango GT painted in Redeye and a Charger finished in Bludicrous (above).Color Jailbreak DodgeColor Jailbreak could eventually give Dodge buyers the ability to venture far beyond the company's regular paint chart.AdvertisementAdvertisementTo preview the program, Dodge will display a 2027 Charger Scat Pack in Cha Ching Green and a Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak in Toxic Orange (like the one pictured above). Attendees will also be able to examine several high-impact Charger color samples and vote for their favorites.Dodge has yet to explain exactly how customers will select colors, how many shades will be available, or which models will qualify. For now, the company is promising a broader and more affordable version of the custom-paint programs previously offered on a small number of its special edition vehicles.Between the custom paint, translucent stripes, bronze wheels, and a Durango wearing nearly every shade of blue Dodge could rustle up, Roadkill Nights should be unusually colorful this year. The bigger question is how much of this experimentation will eventually make its way onto customer vehicles.Photo credit: DodgePhoto credit: DodgePhoto credit: DodgePhoto credit: DodgeAdvertisementAdvertisementPhoto credit: DodgePhoto credit: DodgePhoto credit: Dodge
