Why? Because some rear spoilers are still trying to make a break for it. If you're getting déjà vu, you're not alone. Dodge first tried to tackle this in late 2021, recalling certain 2021 Durangos for liftgate spoilers that could fly off. Fast forward to early 2023, and the recall ballooned to cover even more 2021-2023 models with the same stubborn issue. The original recalls were meant to prevent spoilers from working loose and taking flight on the highway. But according to Stellantis, some Durangos that have already received the fix are still experiencing the same problem. After reports of spoilers making a run for it even after recall repairs, the company kicked off another investigation in March 2026.AdvertisementAdvertisementThis time, the problem isn't so much a bad spoiler as it is a bad fit. Some Durangos rolled out of the factory with spoilers pressed up too close to the roof, so every time you open or close the liftgate, the spoiler gets a little love tap. Do that enough times, and eventually, the spoiler gives up and lets go.Which Dodge Durangos Are Affected? If you own a 2021, 2022, or 2023 Dodge Durango built between July 13, 2020, and March 28, 2023, your SUV might be on the list – 74,578 of them, to be exact. Dodge says you might get a heads-up before your spoiler tries to escape. Listen for the spoiler smacking the body when you open or close the liftgate, or a rattling from the back while driving if things are already coming loose.A runaway spoiler isn't just an eyesore – it turns into road debris, which can be a real hazard for everyone else on the road. Stellantis dug through warranty claims, customer complaints, and service reports to get to the bottom of it.By the end of last month, the automaker had identified 8 customer assistance records, 116 warranty claims, and 37 additional service records potentially related to spoiler detachments. The company also said it was not aware of any crashes or injuries connected to the issue, according to the NHTSA recall documents.Zac PalmerWhat Owners Should Do NextOf course, Durango owners won't have to pay for the fix. However, they will have to wait a bit longer. Stellantis is still working on a proper solution, and once it's ready, affected Durangos will get the new repair. Dealers should hear something by August 20, 2026, and owners will start getting letters in September. VIN lookups went live on August 20, too.AdvertisementAdvertisementUntil then, keep your ears open for weird noises from the back, especially when you're opening or closing the liftgate. If your spoiler looks wobbly or keeps bumping the roof, it's time to call your Dodge dealer and check if your ride is part of the recall once the VIN tool is up.If you already had your Durango's spoiler fixed in the last recall, don't tune out – this new campaign is for you, too. Stellantis says it's aimed at vehicles that might still have the problem, even after earlier repairs.DodgeThis story was originally published by Autoblog on Aug 21, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
