Chevrolet's latest C8 Corvette already has the makings of it a hit.One month into production of the 2027 'Vette and over a third of the examples built are the new Grand Sport variant. While not the most popular C8—that title still belongs to the entry-level Stingray—it does suggest there is plenty of interest in the premium model as it makes its debut this generation.More from Robb ReportSotheby's Is Auctioning Off Exclusive Access and Experiences Amid a Softer Wine MarketThis $32.5 Million Saint-Tropez Villa Is Shaped Like a Giant HoneycombFerrari's New Foiling Yacht Will Completely Power Itself. Here's How.AdvertisementAdvertisementEarly production figures have been posted to the C8 Corvette Owners (and Friends) Facebook Group, according to Corvette Blogger. The data shows that between June 9, when 2027 model year production began, and July 3, General Motors built 1,689 examples of the latest C8. Of those, 719 (or 42.5 percent) were Stingrays, 590 (34.9 percent) were Grand Sports, 241 (14.2 percent) were Z06s, 91 (5.3 percent) were ZR1s, and 48 (2.8 percent) were ZR1Xs. If you're wondering why the data only goes up to July 3, it's because that was the last day before GM's Bowling Green Assembly Plant, where all Corvette production is done, closed for its annual two-week summer shutdown. The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport XThese numbers are still very early. Production of the 2026 Corvette ran for 11 months, during which time more than 25,000 examples are believed to have been built. That means there's around 10 months and 20,000-plus examples left to go. Production of the hybrid Grand Sport X, the hybrid, all-wheel-drive model that will replace the E-Ray, has also yet to begin. Chevy only started taking orders for the car this week. It's easy to see why so many of the early 2027 Corvettes have been Grand Sports. The freshest C8 may not be a series-production American hypercar, like the ZR1, but it is a true high-performance vehicle. The standard version has a 6.7-liter V-8 that makes 535 hp and 520 ft lbs of torque, while the hybrid adds a high-voltage battery and a potent electrical motor to the mix, boosting output to a 721 hp and 660 ft lbs of torque. The Grand Sport starts at $88,495 and the Grand Sport X at $112,195. The Stingray, meanwhile, starts at $73,495, which just might be a bargain when you consider that it can eclipse 200 mph. While production of the 2027 'Vette is well underway, it's unclear when deliveries will begin. But this data does suggest that we'll start seeing Grand Sports out on the road sooner than later.AdvertisementAdvertisementBest of Robb ReportThe 2024 Chevy C8 Corvette: Everything We Know About the Powerful Mid-Engine BeastThe World's Best Superyacht ShipyardsThe ABCs of Chartering a YachtSign up for RobbReports's Newsletter.
