'Clark! There's a Wagon Queen Family Truckster on Bring a Trailer!'

  • Did somebody order an Antarctic Blue Super Sports Wagon with the optional Rally Fun Pack? Well, you didn't want that anyway.
  • Instead, here's the Wagon Queen Family Truckster, star of National Lampoon's Vacation.
  • This faithful replica is road-trip tested and ready to go.

You think you hate it now, but wait 'til you drive it. We're talking, of course, about this Wagon Queen Family Truckster—née '89 Ford LTD Country Squire—up for sale on Bring a Trailer (which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos). Faux wood paneling. Eight headlights. Resplendent Metallic Pea paintwork. What a beauty.

This replica movie car isn't just a faithful tribute; it's also a real road tripper. Purchased in 2023, this big 'ol Ford started as a beige ocean liner of a kind that has mostly gone extinct these days. A considerable amount of cutting and welding went into transforming it into a clone of the onscreen car. At the same time, not inconsiderable effort was put into overhauling the brakes, the suspension, some engine components, and the air conditioning. The transmission fluid and filter were also replaced.

Why put all that effort into a movie car replica that's just going to get driven to the local shows for some yuks? Well, because this car was bound for bigger things. Along with documentation of the build process, the car comes with pictures of it at various Vacation filming sites all across the U.S.A. The seller put some 15K miles on the odometer over the course of ownership. Imagine how many people saw this thing heading the other way on an interstate and did a full Clark Griswold double take.

The 5.0-liter V-8 produces a slightly comical 150 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is a four-speed automatic, and various powertrain seals have also been replaced. It's got all the movie props fixed to the roof, with the exception of a dearly departed Aunt Edna.
