Among the more critical recalls issued by automakers are those for safety equipment, especially for those that work to protect you in a crash. When something goes wrong with those parts, it's possible for people to get seriously hurt, so they need to be fixed as soon as possible. So, owners of 2022 through 2026 Chrysler Pacificas and Voyagers will want to check in with their local dealers about this latest recall. Stellantis has recalled 178,246 examples of the vans for side curtain airbags that may not provide adequate protection.Stellantis Media It's A Continuation Of Previous Recalls This recall stems from one issued in the spring of last year when it was discovered some curtain airbags in Pacifica and Voyager minivans had a defect that was preventing them from properly restraining occupants in a crash. Some of the seams used to create the shape of the bag were found to let too much air through during inflation. As a result, the airbag would have reduced impact absorption and could allow for parts of the body to go at least partially through a window. At the time, about 250,000 vans were recalled.Stellantis MediaSince then, as the new recall documentation mentions, Chrysler and its supplier have been continuing to keep an eye on parts and vehicles to see if additional vehicles were found to have potentially defective airbags, and that seems to be the case. Another recall was issued back in June last year, though that was only for around 1,000 units, significantly fewer than the nearly 180,000 units of this latest recall. For those curious, the total number of recalled vans is split between 154,367 Pacificas and 23,879 Voyagers.Interestingly, those airbag recalls were among the only ones issued for Chrysler's minivans last year. The only other ones were for faulty reverse cameras. Very few vans were included in those reverse camera recalls, too. In the first one, 140 examples were recalled, followed by another one for 21.Chrysler Definitely Get This Fixed Quickly According to the recall documentation, only about 30% of the vans in the recall will actually have faulty parts. Some vans will need new curtain airbags on both sides, and some on just one or the other. Hopefully, it's still obvious that, if you own a potentially affected van, you should get it to the dealer as soon as possible. That's still more than a 1 in 4 chance of having airbags that won't do their job properly.ChryslerOwners can call Chrysler's customer service at 800-853-1403 or visit the company's website for more details, and owners can also search their VIN on the NHTSA website to check if their vans are included. Chrysler will also be sending out letters in the mail to owners to notify them. The repair is straightforward. A dealer technician will inspect the airbags in an affected van to see if it has the defective components. If so, they'll be replaced with new ones, and it will be done at no charge to the owner.
