‘Charging Station Crime Scene:’ Honda Prologue Driver Goes to Dealership to Charge. Then They Try to Park

If the world is a stage, then one electric vehicle driver probably wishes they never got a curtain call. They unwittingly starred in a viral video showcasing their parking skills, or lack thereof.

TikTok creator Hector (@hector.ramirez928) posted a video of the parking spectacular on Aug. 8. The salesman at Greenville Hyundai is watching the driver of a Honda Prologue EV attempt to back up to one of the dealership’s charging stations. The key word here is “attempt.”

“Catching another one,” Hector says with evident delight. “I don’t know if this thing has backup cameras or what. Dude, we got another one. My guy. I really don’t know what’s going on man. I’m running out of ti—”

In the caption, Hector jokes, “Another day, another EV charging station crime scene.”

In the comments section, viewers roasted the Honda Prologue driver’s parking abilities.

“And this person drives next to all of us every day,” wrote one.

“It might not be safe for them to have a license," joked a second.

A third person added, “That took 5-7 business days!”

Someone else familiar with the Prologue questioned how this could happen. “There’s literally a backup camera you can look at in your vehicle, sir,” they wrote in all caps.

Is the Driver Bad at Parking?

In a Reddit thread on r/HondaPrologue, people complained of sudden braking when backing up. “I’ve read earlier posts about the sudden, hard braking while going in reverse if the car thinks it sees an object in your way,” the person wrote. “It happened to me a lot until I figured out to set it to ‘alert’ only and not ‘brake and alert.’ However, it is still braking hard intermittently even though I still have the setting to ‘alert only.’”

One person in the comments said, “Remember, there are two reverse sensing features. Reverse Auto Braking is the one typically causing the sudden stops. I have mine set to ‘alert only.’ But there is also Rear Cross Traffic Alert. I actually have this set to ‘brake and alert.’ With this setup, I don’t get any false positives. But if you are, try switching Rear Cross Traffic Alert to ‘alert only.’”

Essentially, the Prologue’s reverse automatic braking system will hit the brakes if it thinks you’re backing up towards something too fast. If you know how to handle the Prologue, you’ll hit the brake pedal to release the auto brake or turn the feature off altogether. If you’re not familiar with the feature, you might look a little goofy like the driver in Hector’s video.

A few people who commented on his post, which has over 503,600 views as of this writing, wondered whether Hector was serious about the Prologue driver committing a crime. This prompted him to clarify that he wasn’t literally accusing them of a crime.

“Can’t drive,” he wrote. “That is an actual crime.”
