Its Own PathAston Martin is one of the more desirable supercar brands out there; for most of its existence, it has always relied on its allure as a stylish gentleman's choice. If you're a car person, you'll also know that Aston Martin has always followed the beat of its own drum, watching what its rivals are doing but not necessarily copying them. This also means they don't buckle to the industry's current trends; Aston seems to take a pragmatic approach to car development and planning. On EVs, Aston currently has none, and it never jumped into the EV craze like others did. It seems the decision to hold off is paying off as the industry cuts down on EV models, while Aston remains unrushed to launch its own electric car.Aston MartinAston's EV Delayed to 2030sAutocar reports it gained exclusive insight into the UK automaker's EV plans. According to Aston Martin CEO Adrian Hallmark, the brand's first full-EV model will be pushed back to "at least" 2033. Previously, the brand was expected to launch one by 2030, already delayed from the original 2027 timeline. Hallmark said to select media during the brand's Q showroom opening in London (where the DBX GT was displayed) that demand for EVs and legislation is "changing way faster than any car company can cope with."This has shifted Aston's plans for its own EV, leading them to a "Spaghetti Junction" of options and prompting the brand to stress-test different scenarios for regions and markets. That directly affects the brand's timeline, with no specific hard deadline for when the EV will hit the market. Hallmark said that in order to stay within the legislation, the brand will need a full BEV by 2035. He hesitated to say which year Aston's EV will launch, but it definitely won't be 2031, giving them a 3-year window before the carmaker breaches the legislation.2026 Aston Martin Vantage SGabi WabiEV DelayersHallmark is also quick to point out that Aston Martin isn't denying the importance of EVs; it's just delaying and taking its time. As proof they'll take the EV program seriously, they just signed a partnership with Lucid for access to its EV technology. Aston already has a long-standing partnership with Mercedes-Benz for its ICE engines, so it has options to develop its own EV technology when the time comes. Those ICE lovers can rejoice, because Hallmark says that in the meantime Aston will remain an ICE-first brand, meaning more glorious V8s and V12s.Aston Martin
