From one AMG-powered track day special at the Nürburgring to another. This time, the CarBuzz spy photographers have snapped one from Mercedes-AMG itself. It's the second car in the new Mythos line, and could be a spiritual successor to the AMG Black Series. But this super-quick CLE coupe is missing one key detail from the cars we've seen before. The Meanest CLE Ever CarBuzz/ValnetMercedes-Benz is currently testing two very different CLE coupe models. The first is the facelift for the standard car, which includes an AMG version. We've spotted it several times already, and it has small changes like the new Mercedes-Benz star-icon headlamps. This one doesn't have the star lamps. Just like the prototype that AMG teased a few months ago, it has the old-style front lights. It also seems to have the old taillights, though Benz isn't changing them much with the facelift.CarBuzz/Valnet Don't worry, because this monster AMG still has plenty of changes to spot, starting with that rear wing. It's very large for a Mercedes-Benz, and it's also very utilitarian-looking, with all of its hardware exposed. That makes the wing easier to adjust for more or less downforce, though, even if the adjustment is only for testing purposes.A massive splitter is poking out from under the front bumper, ready to direct airflow at the front of the car and keep the nose planted. There are huge ducts for the front-mounted radiators and various coolers, along with some surprisingly visible ducts to channel air to the front brakes. Both the front and rear fenders are much wider than a standard CLE's, no doubt to make room for the wide tires on new AMG wheels. New side skirts channel the air between the wheels, and there are signs that Benz is planning something new just ahead of the rear tires. Could Be Second Mythos, Black Coming Back CarBuzz/Valnet The car looks very fast on the track, but it also looks surprisingly soft for a Black Series car. In a hard right bend, the left-side suspension is seriously compressed, with the entire sidewall and even some of the rim disappearing behind the fender at the front.Mercedes-AMG first teased the new model in January with a set of images showing a new fast model testing in the Arctic winter. Not long after, the company confirmed that there would be a new CLE model wearing the Mythos name. That's a new brand, which has so far only been seen on a special SL 63 called the PureSpeed, but there are plans for more.At the same time, AMG confirmed that there would be a new Black Series model, bringing back the performance name it used on just a few hardcore models over the last two decades. We understand this is it, and that it will come with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter AMG V8 under the hood, bringing that engine back to the CLE.The engine will probably be a version of the new flat-plane crank V8 that launched in the latest S-Class sedan. The M177 Evo engine, as it's called in the S, delivers 530 horsepower instead of the 496 horsepower in the last-gen S-Class. In this car, it should deliver well in excess of 600 horsepower to match the aerodynamic parts. Will AMG add the star lamps, or will that missing element help make this vehicle be even a little more special? We'll wait and see, but expect to hear more about this possible AMG CLE 63 Mythos Black Series later this year.MB CLE Mythos 20
