2030 Chevrolet Corvette C9: What We KnowAndrei Avarvarii - MotorTrendWhat It IsThe world's longest-running sports car returns for its ninth generation in 2030. The C9 2030 Chevrolet Corvette will be the second iteration of the mid-engine Corvette and the product of many hard-earned lessons learned from the C8. The biggest changes will be visual. The C8 Corvette, for all its merits, is neither a classically pretty Corvette nor a well-proportioned mid-engine sports car. Furthermore, owners weren't in love with the closed-off cockpit feel of the cabin, an issue partially rectified by the 2026 Corvette face-lift.According to our sources, the new C9 Corvette will be heavily influenced by the GM Design Center–penned 2025 Corvette CX concept, with softer, more cohesive lines that recall the Coke bottle hips of earlier front-engine Corvettes without sacrificing the performance progress made by the transition to a mid-engine layout. Why It MattersFor the past 30 years or so, the Corvette line has served as a high-performance proving ground for the rest of General Motors. Technologies such as magnetic ride control and performance traction management have been developed for and perfected by various iterations of the Corvette. The C8 in particular has been a tour de force from an engineering perspective, led by the development of both naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions of the world's largest flat-plane-crank V-8 in the Corvette Z06 and ZR1, respectively. Electrification was also introduced to the Corvette lineup for the first time in both the E-Ray and ZR1X. Although we don't expect the C9 Corvette to go full electric at launch, we absolutely do expect to continue seeing it on the bleeding edge of the performance envelope during its life cycle.Andrei Avarvarii - MotorTrendPlatform and PowertrainThere's a lot still taking shape when it comes to what motivates the C9 Corvette, so the only sure thing is that the C9 will ride on an updated (and hopefully lighter) version of the C8's architecture. Despite two of three recent Corvette concepts being envisioned as four-motor EV hypercars, we expect the C9 to stick with a traditional pushrod V-8 at the outset, though we could see a fully electric-powered Corvette at some point in the early 2030s.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport marked the debut of Chevy's new LT6 6.7-liter V-8, which outputs 535 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque and is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. We strongly suspect that will be the powertrain we'll see in the base Stingray when the C9 starts turning wheels in 2029 as a 2030 model. We also expect the usual slate of higher-performance variants, with more powerful hybrids (perhaps one with dual front motors versus the single now found in the ZR1X and Grand Sport X) added to the traditional mix of Z51, Grand Sport, Z06, and ZR1 models.Estimated Price: $78,000–$220,000Expected On-Sale Date: Summer 2029
