The Opel Vivaro gains a new flatbed variant with a more powerful turbodiesel The 2.2-liter engine makes 148 hp and is paired with a six-speed manual. Ram ProMaster City twin is not yet available in a flatbed configuration. At the IAA Transportation in Hannover, Stellantis has introduced a new flatbed version of the Opel Vivaro van with a more potent turbodiesel engine. This makes us wonder if a flatbed variant of the Ram ProMaster City twin we get in the US would be a wise idea. The Opel Vivaro was already available in a flatbed bodystyle, along with the closely related Peugeot Expert, Citroen Jumpy, and Fiat Scudo. What’s new for 2026 is the addition of the more powerful 2.2-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine, generating 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque. The unit is exclusively paired with a six-speed manual transmission connected to the front wheels. More: Stellantis Turns ICE FWD Vans Into 4x4s With Rear Electric Motor Conversion The output might not be impressive, but the new engine has 5 hp (4 kW) more power and 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) more torque than the previous 2.0-liter turbodiesel. It also surpasses the fully electric variant by 13 hp (10 kW) and 100 Nm (74 lb-ft). The EV option remains available for the flatbed with 42 kWh or 69 kWh battery packs. The US-spec 2027 Ram ProMaster City doesn’t get a diesel but features a more potent turbo 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with 166 hp (124 kW / 168 PS) and 221 lb-ft (299 Nm) of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Stellantis The Euro-bound flatbed LCV borrows the front part of the facelifted Opel Vivaro van, combined with an exposed cargo area at the back. The rear bed is accessible from three sides, featuring integrated steps for easier access. The side section has an opening for the fuel tap, while there is an additional storage compartment between the taillights for tools or other gear. Stellantis The interior is also carried over from the regular van with a three-seater layout. The pictured model has a digital instrument cluster and a basic 5-inch monochrome display rather than the optional 10-inch touchscreen. We can also see cloth upholstery, hard plastic covering the dashboard and the door cards, and a modern flat-bottom steering wheel with integrated controls. More: Ram’s New Work Van Is A Steal, Costs Thousands Less Than Rivals According to Stellantis, the target group of the flatbed bodystyle is “municipal depots, landscaping companies and anyone who needs to transport larger tools on an open load area.“ The company didn’t announce pricing for the new flatbed, but the cheapest Opel Vivaro platform chassis with the same diesel 150 engine starts at €35,350 ($40,800) before VAT in Germany.
