TR Series gets a classic touch2027 triumph bonneville t40 and t40 black first lookTriumph revealed two additions to its popular TR Series platform in the new Bonneville T40 and Bonneville T40 Black. Featuring the timeless design of Triumph's Modern Classics models, The T40 models offer a new, more affordable entry point to larger models like the Bonneville T100 and T120.At a quick glance, the T40s blend right in with the larger models, featuring similar teardrop-shaped fuel tanks, flat bench seats, twin rear shocks, and wire-spoke wheels. It's only on closer inspection that you notice the smaller engine, shorter wheelbase, and that there's only one peashooter exhaust. The Bonneville T40 has the same combination of an 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel, and 31.1-inch seat height as the T100 and T120, which may help riders make the transition when they're ready to move up to a more powerful engine. The Bonneville T40 models use a dedicated version of the TR Series engine. It remains a 398cc liquid-cooled Single, but with a revised cylinder head and tuning designed to deliver more torque lower in the rev range. Triumph claims the T40's engine has a peak torque output of 26.6 lb-ft. at 5,000 rpm, compared to 27.7 lb-ft. at 6,500 rpm with the Speed 400. With an added emphasis on offering accessible performance at more practical engine speeds, the claimed horsepower output peaks at 32 hp at 7,000 rpm, compared to the Speed 400's claimed peak of 39.4 hp at 8,000 rpm.Related Video2027 triumph bonneville t40 and t40 black first lookThe T40 comes with three preconfigured ride modes (Road, Rain, and Eco), plus two user-defined modes. Each mode offers a different combination of throttle response, cornering traction control and cornering anti-lock brakes. Cruise control comes as standard equipment. All the electronics are managed through a four-inch TFT display, with smartphone connectivity for navigation, phone, and music control.Triumph designed a new frame specifically for the T40 models. Unlike the other TR Series models, the T40s have a one-piece frame and subframe to support the dual rear shocks. The new frame also holds the engine in a more upright position closer to what you would expect on a Bonneville.2027 triumph bonneville t40 and t40 black first lookThe twin rear shocks offer adjustable preload, and 5.1 inches of travel.
