Technical details on middleweight adventure bikes released2026 norton atlas and atlas gt first lookNorton Motorcycles announced its comeback last November at EICMA, and just last month, launched a new flagship sportbike in the Manx R (if you haven't read Troy's review of it yet, shame on you!). Norton has now released more details about its next two models, the Atlas and Atlas GT adventure bikes. We first got a taste of the two Atlas models at EICMA, but full technical details were not available at the time. We now have complete specifications for the Atlas, but will have to wait a little longer for the more road-going GT variant. Both versions will be offered in a base model as well as a premium Apex model. Visually, the Atlas offers a futuristic, yet minimalist look, with large panels of bodywork with a simple color scheme. The Atlas sports wire-spoke wheels, including a 19-inch wheel up front. The Atlas sports wire-spoke wheels, including a 19-inch wheel up front.AdvertisementAdvertisementUnlike the Manx R, which is expected to go for upwards of $27,000 in the U.S., the adventure bikes will carry a more attainable price. In the U.K., the Atlas will start at £8,250 (US$11,070) for its base version and £9,450 (US$12,680), which puts it about midway between the Kawasaki KLE500 SE (£6,599) and the Aprilia Tuareg (£10,945).Regardless of the trim or variant, the Atlas models will share a liquid-cooled 585cc DOHC parallel-Twin engine with a 270° crankshaft. Norton claims the engine produces 69 hp at 9,300 rpm and 42 ft-lb. at 7,300 rpm. The engine is matched with a wet multiplate slipper clutch, and a six-speed transmission with ratios selected to cover urban commuting, highway cruising and off-road exploration. A bidirectional quickshifter will come standard.2026 norton atlas and atlas gt first lookThe Atlas models will also share a steel trellis frame that uses the engine as a structural element. According to Norton, the frame was tuned to offer a balance of rigidity and feedback. The frame design also helps contribute to weight reduction, with Norton claiming a wet weight (but with its 4.0-gallon fuel tank empty) of 414 pounds for the Apex, and 423 pounds for the Apex trim (we'll have to wait to see how much the GT version weighs.)2026 norton atlas and atlas gt first lookWe do know that both models are equipped with fully adjustable KYB fork and monoshock. That Atlas will offer 7 inches of travel, front and back, while the Atlas GT will make do with only 5.5 inches for either end. The braking components are from ByBre, Brembo's more affordable sub-brand (which is also based in India, just like Norton's new owner, TVS). The dual radial-mount front calipers are matched with 310mm discs, which are larger than the rotors offered on competitors like the Tuareg 660 and Yamaha Ténéré 700AdvertisementAdvertisementWith its stronger off-road intentions, the Atlas comes equipped with a 19-inch front and 17-inch aluminum alloy wire spoked wheels. The Atlas GT will come equipped with 17-inch cast wheels, front and back, opening it up to a wider selection of road-focused rubber. Both variants are equipped with a Bosch six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit, which unlocks the lean-sensitive anti-lock braking system, traction control, and cruise control. Other electronic features include selectable ride modes, rear wheel slide control, wheelie control, and hill hold assist. Settings are displayed on an 8-inch TFT display, along with turn-by-turn navigation, and Bluetooth phone connectivity.2026 norton atlas and atlas gt first lookOther features include a 33.3-inch ride height for the Atlas (the GT version will be slightly shorter), a 4.0-gallon fuel tank, tires from TVS' in-house brand, Eurogrip, and 30-month/30,000 mile warranty for U.S. customers. The Norton Atlas will be available in four color options: Matrix Black, Trophy Silver, Verona Green, and Sinopia Orange, with the latter two adding a small premium.2026 Norton Atlas SpecifictionsEngine TypeLiquid-cooled 585cc DOHC 270° crank parallel twinBore & stroke78mm x 61.2mmCompression ratio12.2:1Fuel injectionMulti-point sequential fuel injection system, ride-by-wire throttleHorsepower69 hp at 9,300 rpm (claimed)Torque42 ft-lb. at 7,300 rpm (claimed)ExhaustSteel 2-into-1 system with upswept silencerTransmission6-speed with bi-directional up/down Quick ShiftClutchCable-operated Assist & Slip multiplate wet clutchPrimary driveConstant mesh; 40:81 ratioFinal driveX-ring 116 Chain, 16T front sprocket, 47T rear sprocketFrameSteel trellisSwingarmCast aluminumSeatOne-piece rider & pillion seatFront SuspensionKYB 43mm USD forks, 7.0 inches of wheel travel, fully adjustableRear SuspensionKYB monoshock RSU, 7.0 inches of wheel travel, adjustable tension damping with hydraulic preload adjustmentFront Brakes2x 310mm semi-floating discs, radially-mounted Bybre calipersRear Brake270mm rear disc, Bybre caliperFront WheelCast alloy /Spoked steel, 19" x 2.50"Rear WheelCast alloy /Spoked steel, 17" x 4.00"Front TireEurogripExplo R Plus, 110/80 ZR19Rear TireEurogripExploR Plus, 150/70 ZR17Rake/Trail25.7° / 4.0 inchesFuel capacity4.07 gallonsSeat Height33.3 inchesGround clearance8.7 inchesWheelbase57.7 inchesWet weight414 pounds (claimed, no fuel)Become a Motorcycle.com insider.
