Lincoln just killed its second-best-selling model, but that doesn't mean the company is getting ready to give up. After the Lincoln Corsair was discontinued along with the Ford Escape it is based on, it seemed like it was headed to the bottom. But the CarBuzz spies have just snapped a new Corsair that could be making its way to America... via a voyage across the Pacific. New Corsair Spotted On A Polar Adventure CarBuzz/Valnet The prototypes that were spotted testing in Sweden look a lot like the Corsair that just left. But that's not really a surprise, as Lincoln has, for a while now, been keeping its design language consistent between its multiple models. While the Corsair is no longer sold in the US, it is still sold in China, and has been built there for that market since the Corsair first went on sale. This prototype is likely intended to be the new Chinese model, but the CarBuzz spies say that it is expected to return to the US in 2027. That 2027 model, it is believed, will be built in China for the US. Lincoln already imports the Nautilus from China for the US, but the plan for both will likely hinge on tariffs.CarBuzz/Valnet We can tell Lincoln's designers are planning new headlights and taillights for the model. The entire nose is new, with an absolutely gaping maw of a grille that almost drops down through the bottom of the bumper. A tiny bit of lower lip is all that saves it from that unfortunate decision.Around the back, there are similar changes. New taillights that somehow look more Ford than Lincoln, along with changes to the hatch itself and the rear bumper. Bigger Changes Hiding Inside CarBuzz/Valnet Those changes might give it a light freshening, but bigger changes inside will help make sure it's actually appealing when it hits the market. We can see a massive new center screen, showing that Lincoln is changing direction from its current Nautilus. That model has a small center unit and then an array of screens at the base of the windshield. It has received mixed reviews in the US, so it's not surprising Lincoln is looking at something different. The new Corsair will not be an EV, or at least this one won't be. The current 2.0-liter turbo-four should continue, though it could make more than the 250 horsepower of the current model. A 1.5-liter hybrid system is also expected, which would replace the 2.5-liter hybrid system of the now discontinued model.Corsair made up close to 25% of Lincoln sales in recent years. Losing that puts the brand in a tight spot, especially with dealers who need to keep the lights on with just three models. A new model in a very hot segment is almost a must, but without the Escape to help spread the costs, it had become too hard to keep it going.Ford plans to build its new electric vehicle family at the Kentucky plant that was home to the Escape and Corsair. They're not expected to go on sale until at least next year, but Ford needs time to prepare the plant.Lincoln Corsair 9
