2026 GMC Sierra ElevationGMCThere are few things more perfect than the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation, the electric version of which I tested back in May. It's a full-size pickup aiming squarely at buyers who want the muscle and utility of a work truck, but also "dressed for dinner," a looker at the club, the party or the anything. Sitting above the base Pro model and below the luxury Denali lineup, the Elevation hits a sweet spot with its monochromatic styling, big digital displays and strong value for what you pay. If you love trucks, you'll love this one. What's new for 2026?For 2026, GMC leaves a great thing alone. The Sierra carries over with only minor updates including two new exterior paint colors and a sportier exhaust note on trucks equipped with the optional 6.2-liter V8 when Sport mode is selected. Otherwise, GMC didn't tinker with their formula. My tester came with GMC's 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8, producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a smooth 10-speed automatic transmission and delivers EPA estimates of about 16 mpg city and 20 mpg highway in four-wheel-drive form, depending on configuration.AdvertisementAdvertisementBuyers can also choose the standard TurboMax four-cylinder, the torquey 3.0-liter Duramax diesel or the mighty mighty 6.2-liter V8. Pricing starts at roughly $53,000 for an Elevation, while a well-equipped example like my tester pushes into the low-to-mid $60,000 range.LooksThe Elevation is the sharpest-looking Sierra in the lineup. Instead of jamming it with chrome, GMC gives it a body-colored grille surround, dark trim, black wheels and LED lighting that give the truck a clean, ballsy appearance.2026 GMC Sierra ElevationInsideInside, GMC has made huge strides over previous generations. A 13.4-inch touchscreen dominates the center of the dashboard, accompanied by a generous 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard and the menus are intuitive enough that you rarely have to hunt for basic functions. The system also synced instantly, unlike some test vehicles. Storage is abundant, the seating position is commanding, and visibility is excellent thanks to the truck's large glass area.2026 GMC Sierra ElevationThe Sierra's cabin is refined, meaning whatever mess you're hauling, you're still genteel within. . Wind noise is fairly well controlled at freeway speeds, materials are solid for this price point, and even after spending long stretches behind the wheel, I never felt fatigued. Several times, when there was work to be done and the sun was going down, I parked on top of Baldwin Hills and enjoyed the Sierra's nice cockpit. How's the drive? On the road, the 5.3-liter V8 isn't the quickest engine in the class but it's glass-smooth, relaxed and delivers effortless acceleration for merging, passing and hauling. It would be a great vehicle for a smaller individual. The 10-speed automatic doesn't hunt for gears and I found the steering2026 GMC Sierra Elevationlighter than expected for such a large truck. Ride quality is firm but comfortable, soaking up broken pavement better than many competitors. Unless you're towing heavy trailers every weekend, the 5.3-liter strikes a nice balance between performance and everyday drivability. You'll find a lot of excuse to drive it.Room for improvement? Some owners continue to report occasional electronic glitches with the infotainment system, while others wish fuel economy were better with the V8. A few also feel the Sierra's rear-seat space trails some competitors when equipped in certain cab configurations.2026 GMC Sierra ElevationAdvertisementAdvertisementConclusion - overall, the 2026 GMC Sierra Elevation gets the important things right. It looks tough, offers a comfortable and high-tech interior, drives with confidence and delivers the versatility truck buyers expect. It may not have the luxury of a Denali or the off-road hardware of an AT4, but for many buyers, the Elevation is a favorite. This article was originally published on Forbes.com
