The 2026 Geely Xingyuan has been launched in China, looking practically identical to before but with a few detail changes. Notably, those tweaks are merely cosmetic, with no updates to the powertrain, unlike the also-revised Galaxy E5 (known to you and me as the Proton eMas 7). On the outside, the electric hatchback retains its rounded, jellybean-like design but with a new C-pillar appliqué that ditches the glossy linear pattern in favour of a starry motif that references its name (roughly translating to “star wish”). This astronomic theme continues on the inside, where the illuminated gloss black decor swaps the existing city skyline motif for “shooting stars”. Do these look familiar to you? That’s because these cues were first seen on the Xingyuan’s Malaysian twin, the Proton eMas 5. This means that, apart from the different badging and steering positioning, the two cars are now basically identical inside and out. The new model year also brings with it a new lilac colour option to join the existing pastel blue, green and pink hues, plus cream, white, grey and silver. There’s also a beige interior that notably has a black steering wheel airbag boss instead of being colour matched as per the white version. Again, there are no hardware changes here, although we should point out that the Xingyuan continues to be offered with features that the eMas 5 will lack. These include a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a cooled 50-watt Qi wireless charger and a ten litre drawer in place of a conventional drop-down glovebox. The 14.6-inch touchscreen is also connected to the Flyme Auto infotainment system (the same one used in the eMas 7) rather than Proton’s Atlas. Last but not least, Geely is leaning into the slightly smart #1-esque design by even offering a cut-price “Brabus” version. The limited-run Star variant gets a gloss black bodykit consisting of a front splitter, side skirts and a rear lip spoiler, along with unique 16-inch black alloy wheels. Red is slathered on the roof, door mirror caps, aforementioned bodykit and even the wheel centre caps for that Bottrop look. Inside, the Star gains a “sports” steering wheel, red stitching and seat belts and embroidered headrests. It’s also the only model to come with a 256-colour ambient lighting system. As mentioned, there are no changes to the mechanicals, so the Xingyuan continues to be powered by a single rear motor with modest range. The base model produces 79 PS (58 kW) and 130 Nm of torque and delivers a WLTP-rated range of just 225 km with its 30.12 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The longer-range variant boosts outputs to 116 PS (85 kW) and 150 Nm and comes with a larger 40.16 kWh battery delivering a more usable range of 325 km. Prices range from 68,800 yuan (RM40,800) to 87,800 yuan (RM52,000); the Star version costs 98,800 yuan (RM58,500). Closer to home, the Proton eMas 5 is set to be launched in Malaysia very soon, with the order books now open. The car is being hailed as the country’s cheapest EV, with estimated prices ranging from RM60,000 to RM80,000 – well below the RM100,000 floor price for tax-exempted CBU fully-imported EVs.
