'World’s First:' Woman Walks Up to Mercedes Vision V. Then She Unlocks It With Her Face

Everyone knows the feeling. You get to your car with your hands full and awkwardly try to unlock it and get in without dropping anything.

A new feature on the Mercedes-Benz Vision V may make that experience a thing of the past. It’s just one aspect of the vehicle that’s getting people excited.

The Vision V has multiple luxury features. One that’s turning heads is a face recognition scan that unlocks and opens the doors.

TikTok user Tuesday Le Roux (@tuesdayleroux) is a car and technology influencer who recently toured the Vision V. She posted her review of the vehicle on May 27. “Look at this,” she says as she approaches the door of the vehicle.

A display on the door reads, “Hi Tuesday Le Roux.”

Le Roux says, “We’ve got face recognition. Let’s scan.” The doors of the Mercedes slides open.

“Our illuminated sidestep comes out. Let’s get inside. This is crazy,” she says as she climbs into the cabin.

Viral bits from across the social media landscape

Our team of experts tracks what's trending so you don't have to—from viral videos to online debates that have everyone talking.

The Mercedes Vision V Interior

The Vision V resembles the backseat of a luxury limousine. It features two lush looking seats, a bar area complete with a chessboard, and a display that hides a TV screen. “We’ve got a 65-inch TV screen,” Le Roux says. “We also have seven projectors all over the car, creating a fully immersive experience, including projecting on the windows.”

She gestures to a tray mounted onto the center console. “And when I open this, we’ve got a chessboard, because you can literally play chess while you’re in the car,” she says. “If you don’t feel like playing chess, you can relax in zero gravity mode.”

The Mercedes Vision V Exterior

Le Roux climbs out of the vehicle and takes her viewers on a tour of the outside. “In the front, our grill lights up,” she says. “We’ve got the world’s first illuminated Mercedes star. And there is no glass at all” on the headlights. She continues, “World’s first illuminated Mercedes rims.”

She then shows viewers the top of the vehicle, which also includes a key feature: solar panels.

“At the back, our lights go all the way around,” she says. “And look at our indicators. Where have you ever seen that before? What do you guys think?”

What Do People Think of the Mercedes Vision V?

In the comments section, viewers offered their takes on the Mercedes Vision V and its lineup of features.

“To achieve maximum luxury just add as many lights as possible,” wrote one skeptical viewer.

“Imagine a bear chasing you and you trying to get in the car for safety,” joked another user.

“Needed a car, not a Barbie doll house,” wrote a third user.

As InsideEVs noted earlier this year, the Vision V is set to debut in 2026. It is part of a line of mid-size and large camper vans that will run on the VAN.EA platform that guarantees more than 310 miles of range.

Unfortunately, not everyone is excited about the Vision V. In a Reddit thread posted to r/Mercedes_Benz, users discussed whether the van is a practical option for U.S. drivers. “This just seems a million times more inconvenient than opening a standard door,” wrote one person.

Another person agreed, “All I want is anything post-2020 that is reliable, doesn’t break down all the time, and has buttons, dials, and some gauges.”

Motor1 contacted Le Roux via TikTok comment and email for comment.
