If there's any car that really changed the trajectory of the Chevrolet Corvette, it's the 2025 ZR1. This variant took the C8-generation Corvette to performance heights nobody could have ever expected. It's more powerful than people expected it would be, and it puts the Corvette into a position it was never in before. It's now knocking on the doors of Supercars, and getting there in a way that gives it a uniquely American character. The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Is The Most Powerful Pure Combustion Corvette Ever Made Via: ChevroletThe most impressive part of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is that massively powerful engine. Chevrolet fitted it with a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that has a flat-plane crankshaft. That gives the engine a very racy feel, as well as the highest power output of any pure combustion Corvette ever made. The 2025 ZR1 has an incredible 1,064 horsepower and 828 lb-ft of torque. As you'd expect, that gave it supercar-challenging performance. Chevrolet claimed that the standard version of the 2025 ZR1 could sprint from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds. If you went for the ZTK performance package, that dropped a bit further to 2.3 seconds. Those are just the official figures, too - the ZTK Performance Pack-equipped ZR1 has had an independently recorded 0-60 mph time of 2.2 seconds. It also got an official top speed run, hitting a confirmed 233 mph in the process. If a Corvette legitimately achieving over 230 mph wasn't crazy enough, the driver for that run was the President of General Motors himself, Mark Reuss! Its Engine Is A Development Of The Corvette Z06's Unit ChevroletThe 2025 ZR1's twin-turbo flat-plane V8 didn't come completely from nowhere. It's actually a development of the engine that you get in the Z06 variant. In the Z06, it's naturally aspirated instead of having the twin turbos. As a result it's a bit less powerful, producing 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. That still makes it the most powerful naturally aspirated engine General Motors has ever produced, though. With such a great high-performance engine already there in naturally aspirated form, it only makes sense that Chevrolet's engineers would tweak it so that it could be boosted even further with turbochargers. It's Much More Powerful Than Its European Rivals FerrariWith all that power the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has, it's got a serious advantage over its closest rivals from Europe. While its European rivals might be more sophisticated and have better brand value, they can't match the Corvette ZR1 in a battle of pure performance. The Ferrari 296 GTB does have a similar 0-60 mph time to the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (2.4 seconds), but its 3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid setup only produces 819 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque in total. That's over 200 horsepower and nearly 300 lb-ft of torque less than the ZR1. The McLaren 750S has a similar story. It has a 0-60 mph time of 2.3 seconds, matching what the Corvette ZR1 can accomplish. But, it's got an even bigger power deficit to the Corvette ZR1, producing 740 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque from its 4-liter twin-turbocharged V8. It Helped To Create The Corvette ZR1X ChevroletMany automakers would have stopped at creating something as crazy as the ZR1. Chevrolet didn't, though. Taking the ZR1 as a base, it went one step further and created the ZR1X. This combines the ZR1's engine with the hybrid system from the E-Ray, producing an all-wheel drive monster with 1,250 horsepower. That big power and all-wheel drive also enables it to do the 0-60 mph sprint in less than 2 seconds. This pushes the C8 Corvette into hypercar territory, challenging cars that cost a million dollars or more. It's Surprisingly Easy To DriveChevroletWith all that power going exclusively to the rear wheels, you'd think that the 2025 Corvette ZR1 would be difficult to drive. Actually, it isn't at all! This car is known for having an easy and progressive power delivery, great handling balance thanks to its mid-engined layout and fantastic ride quality thanks to the magnetic ride control system in its suspension. While purists might lament that it isn't available with a manual transmission, the 8-speed dual-clutch automatic makes 2025 ZR1 much easier to drive in regular traffic. Put all of that together, and the 2025 Corvette ZR1 is a supercar that you could genuinely drive every day. That's if you're not worried about the gas prices you'll encounter from running a twin-turbocharged V8, anyway... It Became One Of The Fastest Street-Legal American Cars To Lap The Nurburgring The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 didn't just impress with its pure power, as amazing as that is. It also impressed in how it could challenge and beat the best European supercars on the world's most challenging circuit. This car is one of the fastest street-legal American cars ever to lap the Nürburgring. Chevrolet took both the ZR1 and the ZR1X to the circuit in 2025 with a professional team, and let them loose on the Green Hell. The ZR1 recorded a time of 6:50.763, while the ZR1X recorded a time of 6:49.275. Both of those times beat the Ford Mustang GTD's record of 6:52.072, giving General Motors a win in the battle of the big Detroit manufacturers. As well as being the fastest and second-fastest street-legal American cars to ever go around the 'ring in anger, they're also the 6th and 9th fastest street-legal cars from any country to set an official lap time there. The ZR1 is only slightly slower than the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ LP770-4 (6:49.42), and the ZR1X is only slightly slower than the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series (6:48.047). That's an incredible achievement for Chevrolet's engineers! How Much Will A 2025 Corvette ZR1 Cost You Today?ChevroletSo, the performance of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has impressed you enough to want to go out and buy one. How much is it going to cost you? Well, if the market right now is to be believed, a lot of money. In fact, the market for these cars is so inflated that you might actually be better off buying a brand-new 2026 model from your local Chevy dealer! 2025 ZR1s are currently selling for an average of around $301,000. That's actually significantly more than the American MSRP of a 2026 ZR1, which ranges from $174,995-$203,000. 2025 ZR1s Are So Expensive Because Chevrolet Can't Produce Brand-New Ones Fast Enough Via: ChevroletWhy are these nearly-new ZR1s so expensive? Well, it's all about supply and demand. People really want these cars, and the demand is outstripping how fast Chevrolet can produce them. If you order a brand-new ZR1, you could end up waiting around for months or even years. As a result, pre-owned examples that you can buy and drive away as soon as possible are highly prized. People (understandably) don't want to be waiting around for ages for their new car to be built, and they're more than willing to pay the premium to get a pre-owned one immediately.Sources: Car & Driver, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-BenzFAQQ: How much horsepower does the 2025 Corvette ZR1 have? The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has 1,064 horsepower.Q: What is the price of the 2025 Corvette ZR1?The average used value of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is $301,000.Q: How fast is the Corvette ZR1?The Corvette ZR1 has a 0-60 mph time of 2.3-2.5 seconds, and a top speed of 233 mph.Q: What engine does the C8 ZR1 have?It has a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft.Q: Is the Corvette ZR1 mid-engine?Yes it is.
