IvoHercik.com/Volkswagen AG/dpaVolkswagen has added a new member to its line-up of electric vehicles – the ID.Tiguan.Following on from the ID.Polo and ID.Cross, the ID.Tiguan is the latest car from Volkswagen to use an established name alongside the new 'ID' badging.Thomas Schäfer, chief executive of Volkswagen Brand, said: "More than 8.3 million Tiguan vehicles produced demonstrate the strength and trust associated with this model name. The Tiguan represents a versatile, premium vehicle and embodies the essence of True Volkswagen."Set to replace the existing ID.4 and ID.5 models when it goes on sale at the start of next year, the ID.Tiguan is underpinned by Volkswagen Group's new MEB+ platform which is being used underneath a variety of the group's cars. While Volkswagen has yet to disclose any powertrain details about the ID.Tiguan, it's expected to get either a 58 or 77kWh battery, as well as the option of either single- or dual-motor setups. That would mean a range of between 250 and 600 km depending on specification.Responding to criticism of the largely screen-centric layout of previous ID cars, Volkswagen is believed to have kitted the ID.Tiguan out with more physical buttons than before, in a similar theme to that of the new Skoda Peaq. The Czech brand's new seven-seater range-topper, which also uses the MEB+ platform, has been fitted with physical 'toggle' switches and it's expected that the new ID.Tiguan will adopt a similar approach.Volkswagen has confirmed that the new ID.Tiguan will be revealed in full next month.
