A man's Uber was canceled, only for him to find the vehicle right outside the pickup location. The only thing is, the driver was nowhere to be found. Getting an Uber has become a common way to get around town, especially when going out at night. This eliminates the stress and worry of figuring out parking or how you’ll make it back home. However, for this man, it only added more confusion and stress to the night when his Uber got canceled. Stefan (@stefsthots) reveals that he was charged a $6 cancellation fee even though the Uber was right outside with no driver. The TikTok went viral with over 563,600 views as of this writing. "That’s our Uber. Uber wants to charge me a $6 cancellation fee, and our driver isn’t even in the car. I don’t know where he could be," Stefan shares. Stefan points to the Toyota with the flashers on as he wonders where the driver could be. "Uber has audacity," the onscreen text reads. To make matters worse, Stefan has to go to the bathroom on top of this. "I need to pee," he concludes. He’s clearly disappointed. It’s always disheartening when you get charged for a service that wasn’t fulfilled. "And Uber will still ask if I want to sign up and save with UberOne," Stefan captions the post. When Does Uber Cancel Rides? Both drivers and riders have the power to cancel an Uber ride for any reason, according to Uber. Passengers may cancel rides when the driver requests a $5 upcharge for A/C or simply does not use A/C at all during the ride. Drivers also have the power to cancel rides for passengers who do not follow the Uber user community guidelines. However, Uber will charge a cancellation fee if the ride has started or the driver is en route to the pickup location. According to Uber, the following scenarios will incur a cancellation fee based on the selected service option. These service options include shared, economy, and premium rides: Shared Rides: "If you cancel more than 2 minutes after your Share request has been accepted OR if your driver cancels after waiting at least 2 minutes at your pickup location." Economy Rides: "If you cancel more than 2 minutes after your UberX request has been accepted OR if your driver cancels after waiting at least 7 minutes at your pickup location (10 minutes for Comfort rides)." Premium Rides: "If you cancel more than 5 minutes after your Black or BlackSUV request has been accepted OR if your driver cancels after waiting at least 15 minutes at your pickup location." Now, of course, there are nuances, and cancellation fees can be overturned if proper evidence is provided. Let’s say the passenger cancels the Uber because the driver hasn’t made any progress or is more than 5 minutes late; the cancellation fee can be waived. These cancellation fees can be determined by location and how busy it is. Additional factors can include how far the driver has driven, how long it took to reach the pickup location, and how long the driver waited for the passenger to pull up. In addition to these guidelines provided by Uber, a former Uber driver also reveals what makes drivers cancel your rides. According to this former Uber driver, seeing a name with only one letter and no photo can come off as suspicious. She also reveals that if the passenger isn’t ready right away, she’ll just cancel. The third reason the ride can get canceled is when the customer is in a completely different location from the requested pickup spot. Any charge can be disputed through Uber’s contact form within the app. ‘Lyft Would Never Do Me This Dirty’ Viewers went to the comments section to express other Uber cancellation stories. "My uber was an EV and the battery died in the middle of the highway in a snow storm and uber wanted to charge me $60 for a half taken ride," one TikTok commenter shared. "My uber got pulled over for speeding, cop said his license expired THREE YEARS AGO and he didn't have any papers for the car he was driving. He refuses to get out of the car so he gets arrested and then Uber charged me $16 because I took half of the ride," another shared. While other viewers shared unusual situations with Uber drivers. "My uber started reversing on the highway because he missed his exit," one revealed. "I got into a car accident while in an uber and the driver still kept trying to drive," another added. Naturally, some viewers made humorous remarks, and one suggested Stefan should contact their credit card company. "CALL YOUR BANK and tell them it’s fraud. Ain’t no way I’m paying for something to never got a service for that’s stealing," one suggested. "He left it there for you, you're the driver now," another added. "Lyft would never do me this dirty," a third commented. Motor1 has contacted Stefan via email and TikTok direct message. Uber has been contacted via email.
