For years, American performance enthusiasts have watched with envy as the rest of the world enjoyed the Toyota GRMN Yaris, a rally-bred pocket rocket that had everyone from die-hard hot-hatch fans to supercar owners lusting after a set of keys. Toyota finally offered some solace back in 2023 when it brought the larger GR Corolla to US shores. But as good as the GR Corolla is, it has always lacked the harder-edged attitude and track-focused upgrades that come with the coveted GRMN badge.Toyota GRMN sits at the very top of the hierarchy at Toyota's GR performance sub-brand. Short for "Gazoo Racing Masters of Nürburgring," the designation is reserved for only the most extreme, performance-focused models. Now, American buyers are finally getting a taste. Toyota revealed the soon-to-arrive 2026 GRMN Corolla overnight, and it looks ready to dominate the compact performance market. Everything Dialed To The Max The standard GR Corolla is already a potent machine, but as the GRMN designation signifies, the new GRMN Corolla has been developed to perform on one of the most punishing racetracks in the world, Germany's Nürburgring, where Toyota scion and current chairman Akio Toyoda – who also serves as the company's chief test driver – started his racing career under the pseudonym Morizo, a name he initially adopted to hide his identity.Rather than focus on just a handful of areas, Toyota's engineers evaluated virtually every aspect of the GR Corolla in their quest for added performance, including by taking the car racing to identify its strengths and weaknesses under the most demanding conditions. A key example of this can be found under the hood of the new GRMN Corolla.ToyotaAccording to Toyota, lessons learned from campaigning a hydrogen-powered GR Corolla in Japan's Super Taikyu endurance racing series played a key role in the development of the turbocharged three-cylinder engine. The grueling demands of endurance racing helped engineers identify opportunities to improve the performance and durability of core internal-combustion components. The output remains unchanged at 300 horsepower, but the GRMN Corolla has seen peak torque increase by 7 pound-feet to a new total of 302, delivered at just over 3,000 rpm. While the increase isn't a whole lot, engineers specifically focused on boosting torque in the meaty part of the rev range, around 4,000 rpm, to help improve acceleration when powering out of corners. The GRMN Corolla also gains an intercooler spray system to help maintain consistent performance during extended full-throttle driving, complementing a cool-air duct recently introduced on the GR Corolla. Note that only a six-speed manual has been announced, although the standard GR Corolla has had the option of an automatic since 2025.2026 Toyota GRMN Corolla exterior in Gravel Gray (3) Downforce Up, Weight Down The GRMN Corolla's visual upgrades aren't just for show. Toyota developed a host of aerodynamic enhancements aimed at increasing downforce and improving cooling. These include a vented hood, fender ducts, front side spoilers, and a large rear wing, all of which were fine-tuned at the Nürburgring. According to Toyota, engineers even adjusted the rear wing's angle in one-degree increments to arrive at the optimal setup.Toyota Underneath, the GRMN Corolla receives exclusive monotube dampers, revised suspension tuning, and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires to improve grip and stability at the limit. The tires measure 245/40 and wrap around 18-inch forged wheels with a tasty 10-spoke design and bronze finish. Toyota also recalibrated the electric power steering and all-wheel-drive system, with the latter delivering more precise torque distribution to enhance stability during high-speed driving and aggressive cornering. Subtle Interior Enhancements 2026 Toyota GRMN Corolla Interior (1)The pursuit of performance extends to the cabin, where Toyota removed the rear seats as part of a comprehensive weight-reduction program that cuts 66 pounds from the GRMN Corolla's curb weight. Up front, drivers are greeted by deeply bolstered semi-bucket sport seats trimmed in black and red suede and synthetic leather, along with more of the suede material on the instrument panel and pillar trim designed to reduce glare. Carbon fiber trim, Morizo's signature on the dash, and a uniquely numbered plaque round out a cockpit that feels purpose-built for serious driving.Toyota Availability And Pricing Toyota said the GRMN Corolla was developed primarily with the US, Japan, and Australia in mind, and that production will take place at the sprawling Motomachi plant in Japan. The automaker hasn't said when deliveries will begin but has confirmed a 2026 model-year arrival, meaning the first cars should land soon. Pricing information will be announced closer to launch.2026 Toyota GRMN Corolla exterior in Gravel Gray (2)
