A Toyota driver did the unthinkable with a Prius. They went off-roading. And not to just anywhere: to Hell’s Revenge. In a Facebook Reel posted by @Crawl_Moab, the Prius is seen leaving the driveway and entering uncharted territory in the off-road lands. In the post, which has over 6,600 likes as of this writing, the Prius is seen taking on Hell’s Revenge. Hell’s Revenge Trail is a challenging off-roading course in Moab, Utah. This trail attracts off-road enthusiasts and a wide range of vehicles to tackle the extremely difficult course. It's so hazardous that it's only recommended for experienced drivers with the proper advanced equipment. Now, the Toyota Prius has entered the conversation. In the Reel, the Prius begins slowly crawling up the elevated terrain of Hell’s Revenge. The next clip shows the Prius bouncing around the uneven terrain as it climbs a hill. While this hill isn’t substantial compared to other parts of the trail, it’s hard not to be impressed by how the Prius prevailed. Prius For The Win? It’s not every day you’d see any sedan on Hell’s Revenge, let alone a Prius. Viewers are here for it. Many cracked jokes about Jeeps, Fords, and, of course, Cybertrucks. "Are the Jeep guys with ducks on their dashboard are going crazy right now wondering what kind of locker he has, lol," one wrote. A second quipped, "Rental cars can go where Jeeps fear to tread." "Tesla Cybertruck cries in its pillow," another added. "I had a Ford Festiva that could go anywhere. Unbelievable off-road. It puts Broncos to shame," a third shared. Others suggested that this wasn’t exactly the wisest thing to do in a Prius. "Just because you can doesn't mean you should," one suggested. "Already missing part of its front end from scrapping," another noticed. One viewer claimed they’ve faced similar challenges with the tiny hybrid. "As a former owner of this exact model and color of Prius, can confirm this was too easy for it. Prius for the win," they said. Can You Really Take A Toyota Prius Off-Roading? When you think of off-roading vehicles, Jeep Wranglers, Ford Broncos, and trucks probably come to mind. Sedans are typically left out of the conversation. While the Toyota Prius is known for being an excellent eco-friendly car, should the vehicle be taken off-roading? It’s pretty much universally agreed that taking a standard unmodded sedan with two-wheel drive is never the best idea. Two-wheel drive simply can’t deliver the same traction, power, or control as four-wheel drive. With four-wheel drive (4WD), power is sent to all four wheels simultaneously to tackle any terrain. Traditionally, the Toyota Prius is not a 4WD vehicle. However, in 2019, Toyota began offering an all-wheel-drive (AWD) model. AWD differs slightly from 4WD. With AWD, power is distributed to all four wheels continuously. If you are thinking about going off-roading with a Prius, you’re better off with AWD rather than a two-wheel drive, as utilizing all four wheels for traction, control, and power is essential when off-roading. You may also want to consider a lift kit to provide extra height for clearance over obstacles you may encounter on rocky or muddy terrain. "Nothing can compare to the feeling of conquering any type of terrain you run into, and a lift kit makes this possible," per Overland. While off-roading with a Toyota Prius isn’t impossible, you need to take extra steps and precautions. The last thing you want is to be rescued.
