The Toyota Camry has been the go-to sedan in terms of practicality and reliability for a few decades now. There is a reason it was the best-selling sedan of 2025 in the US. With the entire model lineup now being hybrid-only since 2025, the Toyota Camry's mpg is definitely above average. However, there are still some trims that are better than the others if fuel consumption is the utmost priority for you. We break down all the Camry's trims in terms of MPG and their fuel consumption from the worst to the best. The winner may surprise you!All mpg ratings are sourced directly from the EPA and the cars have been ranked in terms of their combined mpg, using city and highway mpg as a tiebreaker where necessary. All data is correct at the time of writing. We list these from least to most efficient. 2026 Toyota Camry XSE AWD 43 MPG Combined ToyotaKey features at a glance: 19-inch black and grey alloy wheels 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with selectable gauges Larger 12.3-inch central multimedia touchscreen Dual LED headlights and LED combination taillights Leather-trimmed interior with multi-stage heated front seats The Toyota Camry XSE's fuel efficiency may be the worst on paper when compared to all other trims. However, it is still not to be scoffed at. The XSE is the highest trim of the Camry currently on sale, making it the easiest choice if you prioritize comfort and luxury, and do not mind a few less mpg. The all-wheel-drive system also does not help the car, as the engine has to send power to two more wheels, consuming more fuel. With features such as 19-inch wheels, they work against the air while on the road, also bringing the score down by a touch. With all the kit available on the Camry, most of it is standard on the XSE trim. This will no doubt make the car heavier and force the engine to work a little bit harder. 2026 Toyota Camry SE/Nightshade/XLE AWD 46 MPG Combined ToyotaKey features at a glance: Dual-zone automatic climate control with air filter, humidity sensor and rear-seat vents (SE Trim) Sport-tuned suspension (SE Trim) Gloss-black sport mesh front grille, air curtains and front side canards (Nightshade Trim) Black exterior badging (Nightshade Trim) Available multi-stage ventilated front seats (XLE Trim) All the other AWD trim options bar one are next on the list. All-wheel drive, again, is one of the main reasons that the gas mileage of this Camry isn't the best. However, if you think AWD is crucial in your day-to-day life, this trim offers the most customization. The SE trim is the second tier up from the base Camry, and includes features such as a sport-tuned suspension and sportier trims for the front seats. The Nightshade trim is the trim that ditches the chrome and silver accents around the car for blacked-out trims and badges. The only exterior colors available are white, red and black with this package. If you prefer a classier interior, the XSE trim gets you ventilated leather seats and a digital driver's gauge cluster. 2026 Toyota Camry SE/Nightshade/XLE/XSE FWD 46 MPG Combined ToyotaKey features at a glance: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (All Trims) Sport trimmed front seats with eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat (SE Trim) Gloss-black rear sport lower diffuser (Nightshade Trim) Available multi-stage ventilated front seats (XLE Trim) Color-keyed sport mesh front grille, front side canards and rear diffuser (XSE Trim) The Camry Hybrid mpg favors the 2WD setup if you value fuel efficiency. In terms of the 2026 Camry, that means all the trims are front-wheel drive do better than their AWD counterparts. Nevertheless, the SE/Nightshade/XLE and XSE trims have very similar EPA estimated MPGs to the AWD version, doing better only in the city by a mere one mpg. Apart from the drivetrain, there is no major difference between the trims. This truly comes down to whether you need the stability on slippery roads and in icy conditions of a 4WD system, or if you would much rather save money and buy the FWD trims for better efficiency. 2026 Toyota Camry LE AWD 50 MPG Combined ToyotaKey features at a glance: 16-inch 10-spoke silver-painted alloy wheels Eight-inch multimedia touchscreen with six speakers Bi-LED headlights with Automatic High Beams and auto on/off Qi-compatible wireless charger Available electronic on demand all-wheel drive The base LE trim of the 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid is also the most efficient on the road and highways. A couple of factors add up to be the reason for this superior fuel economy. Firstly, the smaller 16-inch tires help the car conserve fuel on the highways as the side profiles of the wheels are thinner. The LE also does not feature any sporty suspension tuning or any aggressive styling elements such as canards and lip spoilers, making it more aerodynamic. The LE trim also does not have a lot of the interior options available on higher trim models, making the car lighter and more economical. The only thing working against this particular trim of the LE is that it is the AWD variant, providing better grip on slippery surfaces, but second to best fuel efficiency. 2026 Toyota Camry LE FWD 51 MPG Combined ToyotaKey features at a glance: 16-inch 10-spoke silver-painted alloy wheels Eight-inch multimedia touchscreen with six speakers Bi-LED headlights with Automatic High Beams and auto on/off Qi-compatible wireless charger Blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert as standard The best Toyota Camry for fuel economy also happens to be the cheapest Camry currently on sale. The Camry LE FWD trim has everything you want an economical car to have; smaller tires, smooth and non-aggressive body panels and also the lightest out of all the trims. On top of that, if you remove the weight of the AWD system, the engine has two fewer tires to send power to, and you have yourself a winner! With standard tech like a blind-spot monitor and a cross-traffic alert, the Camry LE is not as badly equipped as you would think. So, if you are happy to sacrifice a few extra options and want the best Toyota Camry for fuel consumption, the Camry LE FWD is the peak of the efficiency ladder.
