Every now and then, a car shows up that feels less like a build and more like a time capsule. That was the case at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN) Drive Day, where Lou from My Car Story got a first look at Doug Perry’s beautifully restored 1969 Yenko Camaro in Olympic Gold. The color might be soft, but what’s under the hood is anything but.Doug’s Yenko is the real deal — complete with its 427 cubic-inch big block, Yenko and Stewart-Warner badging, and even period-correct smog equipment. But what makes this car extra special is its story. With just over 21,000 original miles and a restoration that took nearly four years, it’s more than just a showpiece — it’s a tribute. A Factory-Backed Supercar In Disguise Yenko Camaros are already some of the rarest and most desirable muscle cars from the golden era, but this one adds an extra layer of uniqueness with its Olympic Gold finish. While most Yenko cars wore loud, in-your-face colors, this one flies slightly under the radar — right up until you spot the 427 badge on the hood.Doug purchased the car in 2019 from Troy Shadic, who had owned it since 1976. Wanting to honor the previous owner's dedication, Doug restored the car to Troy’s exacting standards — down to the factory overspray on the trim tag. Under the hood sits a 450-horsepower big block V8 that roars to life on camera with an exhaust note that’s clean, deep, and pure 1969.Inside, the car is all business. It sports a four-speed manual, Stewart-Warner gauges, and the original Yenko touches that made these cars so much more than a rebadged Camaro SS. And it shows — this car is immaculate, inside and out. When Lou finally has Doug fire it up, the Yenko delivers a clean idle followed by a rev that reminds everyone just how wild these cars really were in their prime. It’s restrained when you want it to be, but more than happy to raise hell when asked.
