The primary purpose of resto-mods and pro-touring builds is to upgrade a classic car with modern hardware. While they exist on a broad spectrum, the top-tier builds are all about putting the absolute best equipment available into an old hotrod so it not only lives comfortably in the modern world but can outrun it. We just got a reminder of what that looks like when the folks at Roadster Shop took the world for a ride in their custom-built '67 Chevrolet Camaro that's running hard with its physics-defying Mercury SB4 engine and pro-touring chassis. 1967 Camaro With Mercury SB4 Power The car in question is a totally custom 1967 Chevrolet Camaro owned by Scott Rosenbach. It's one of five cars in his collection that was built by Roadster Shop, and it's outfitted with some of the best hardware out there. Obviously, the core of the build is one of its prized custom chassis that helps the car handle like a dream. Classic cars like the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro have a larger-than-life persona. Many are often cited as the greatest cars of all time. And while their killer engines and the ability to rocket through the quarter-mile are respectable, they are pretty lousy when you start diving into turns, and their braking abilities can be downright dangerous if you're rolling on drums and stopping hard many times over. The total overhaul of this car's steering, suspension, and brakes to Roadster Shop specs is something many folks imagine for their dream cars. The real star of this show, however, is the Mercury SB4 engine under the Camaro's hood, which can only be described as absolute madness. It's a 428 cubic-inch V8 that's capable of cranking out 750 horsepower. That's ridiculous enough already, but the fact that it's capable of reliably twisting out to 8,000 RPM takes things to another level. Mercury SB4 Engine Specs No, not that Mercury. This motor is built by Mercury Racing Engines, which is known to build some of the most over-the-top custom engines out there. The SB4 is actually an LS-based motor using a block from Chevrolet's coveted late-model wonder. Like most aftermarket crate engines, the SB4 is equipped with all-new internals to achieve Mercury's demands, which is where the added displacement comes from. Things really get nutty when we tip into the top end, though. These break away from regular LS crate engines with a custom DOHC configuration, which is to thank for the high-winding nature of this insane motor. A Benchmark In The World Of Custom Builds Roadster Shop Camaro The 1967 Camaro in the video is absolutely gorgeous and an excellent example of a truly well-thought build. It serves as a benchmark for other builders to aspire to and makes for a spectacle all car nuts can appreciate. If you need another dose of that wild Mercury SB4, though, there are plenty of other awesome builds that feature it, which you can indulge in. One example that really stands out is Joe Rogan's custom 'Cuda, known as SickFish 2.0, that was also built by Roadster Shop.
