2027 Chevy Silverado ZR2, Trail Boss RevealedChevroletChevrolet has unveiled the next-generation Silverado 1500, which also means new versions of the Trail Boss and ZR2.The off-road-ready Silverado trucks get the same treatment as the road-going trims, meaning new V-8 engines, more tech, and a fresh look. You can read about the rest of the 2027 Silverado lineup's changes here; pricing will be announced before they go on sale by the end of this year.Chevrolet just revealed the 2027 Silverado 1500 lineup, marking the start of a new generation for a pickup truck as quintessentially American as the Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest. The road-going trucks and the workhorses have been shined up with all sorts of newfangled tech and refreshed styling, and the rough and rowdy off-roaders are revamped as well with even more capability than before. The Trail Boss is back and rides on 34-inch mud-terrain tires. It comes with a two-inch suspension lift and features a special off-road hood. The interior sports fabric seat inserts, red stitching, and seatbelts with Torch Red edges, which Chevy says is an obvious cue that the Trail Boss is an off-road model. For budget-minded folks, the Custom Trail Boss has similar hardware, albeit with fewer fancy features, for a more affordable price. Also, every Silverado 4x4 now comes with the popular Z71 package (upgraded suspension, skid plates, and hill-descent control).ChevroletThe ZR2 also retains its place atop the Silverado's off-road lineup. Chevy left the last generation's 33-inch-tall tires in the past, replacing them with a new set of 35-inchers. The ZR2 also features a two-inch factory lift and an off-road hood with a sizable power dome. It comes with standard front and rear electronic locking differentials and brings back the Multimatic DSSV spool-valve damper setup found on the previous generation.AdvertisementAdvertisementAmusingly, the trim found in the ZR2's cabin is GM's first use of forged carbon fiber. Never mind that quarter-million-dollar Corvette ZR1X, Chevy really wanted to save it for its half-ton pickup truck. If your first thought when you looked at the new ZR2 was "soft," Chevy's got you covered with the ZR2 Bison. The available Bison Edition builds on the ZR2 formula with more aggressive bumpers and 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, along with an assortment of skid plates to protect the truck's transfer case, rear differential, and fuel tank.ChevroletFollowing in lockstep with the rest of the next-generation Silverado 1500 lineup, the Trail Boss models and the ZR2 have overhauled powertrain options. The Duramax 3.0-liter diesel is back, as is the improved TurboMax 2.7-liter four-cylinder. Chevy is also offering its new 5.7- and 6.6-liter V-8 engines; however, we don't yet have any specifics on these new small-blocks aside from a mention that this generation will be the most powerful ever.Pricing and availability for the 2027 Chevy Silverado won't be available until later this year, though we expect big changes in pricing compared to the 2026 lineup. That means somewhere in the mid- to high-$50,000 range for the Custom Trail Boss, somewhere north of $60,000 for the Trail Boss, and closer to $80,000 plus for the ZR2 and ZR2 Bison trims.➡️ Skip the lot.
