The Brabus Bodo Cabriolet Is a 1000-HP Drop-TopBrabusBrabus is a defining name in the high-end tuning space, and the founder of the German aftermarket builder lives on in more ways than one these days. Eight years after Bodo Buschmann passed away, the Brabus Bodo was brought to life by his son, Constantin Buschmann, with the help of Aston Martin's Vanquish. Now, Brabus is dropping the top. The Brabus Bodo Cabriolet, revealed Friday at Monterey Car Week's The Quail, a Motorsport Gathering, is the natural progression of the Bodo Coupe—outrageous proportions and all.The core of the Bodo Cabriolet is its bodywork, which is coach-built out of carbon fiber. Brabus actually operates its own composites facility, to ensure the carbon fiber pieces meet quality standards. This attention to detail is doubly important when incorporating the electrically operated folding roof, which can be opened or closed in less than 15 seconds.BrabusThe rear end of the Bodo Cabriolet is where Brabus's coachbuilding prowess really stands out. The 79.8 inch-wide rear end rises dynamically into the rear hips of the V-12 drop top, and active aerodynamics are built into the trunk area, as a carbon fiber rear spoiler deploys with speed; heavy braking over 87 mph pivots the spoiler into a more vertical position, to act as an air brake. A carbon fiber rear diffuser rounds out the rear end, and helps frame the titanium exhaust tips.AdvertisementAdvertisement"The Brabus Bodo is both the next step for the brand and a tribute to my father, Bodo Buschmann. The name and the story behind it are a deliberate homage to him," says Brabus CEO and owner Constantin Buschmann. "I must have talked to him about a project like this a hundred times. A large, attitude-forward gran turismo that truly embodies the Brabus DNA while also possessing a completely unique identity of its own. In the end, we had to work eight years to make this dream a reality—and now, we're taking it one step further with a bold, progressive cabriolet designed in every detail as he would have driven it."BrabusPerformance is just as important as proportions for Brabus. While it starts as the 12-cylinder heart of the Vanquish, the 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12 has been heavily reworked with a ram-air airbox, high-efficiency charge-air cooling, two special turbochargers, and a stainless-steel exhaust system with four tailpipes produced using 3D-metal printing technology. The result is an output of 1000 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 885 lb-ft of torque between 2900 rpm and 5000 rpm. All that power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission and an electronically controlled differential. The result of this stunning level of performance is rapid acceleration: 0-62 miles per hours arrives in 3.0 seconds, while 0-124 mph happens in 8.5. Brabus claims the Bodo Cabriolet has an electronically limited top speed of 223 mph; even more astounding is Brabus's claim that the Bodo Cabriolet can reach 186 mph from a stop in 23.9 seconds.BrabusDynamically, a double wishbone front suspension mates to KW-provided, electronically controlled, adaptive aluminum struts at all four corners, with a multi-link suspension setup in the rear. A lift is included as standard, too. A set of monoblock 22-inch forged wheels connected to Bodo-specific Pirelli P Zero tires is another characteristic part; and finally, the Bodo's braking hardware is appropriately massive, with six-piston calipers at all four corners.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe attention to luxury continues inside the Bodo Cabriolet. Both the coupe and convertible versions are built in a 2+2 format, and the interior is entirely customizable. Brabus "Shell" quilting extends to the leather-trimmed cockpit floor, rear deck, luggage compartment, floor mats, and trunk liner of all. While certain materials like stainless-steel entry panels and contoured leather seats are standard, most Bodo models will be tailored to the individual desires of each owner.BrabusBrabus says it will produce a limited run of 77 Bodo Cabriolet units. The base price of each Bodo Cabrio will start at $1.24 million; I suspect the allocation process will be competitive. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
