BMW has been reluctant to build an M2 CSL, so there is a market out there for people that want an even more hardcore M2 than the CS version. G-Power is more than happy to fill the niche, and with huge style. The current factory BMW M2 makes 473 horsepower, the M2 CS makes 523 hp, but the G2M Bi-Turbo churns up a mental 690 hp. The M2 is a small rear-wheel-drive compact coupe – at least for now – so damn near 700 hp is going to make for an incredibly wild ride. Software + Hardware = Craziness The package to unleash hell from the already awesome M2 uses a mix of hardware and software. A recalibration of the ECU with the German tuner's GP-700 performance software sharpens throttle response and opens up the torque. Then, the car needs HJS sport down-pipes, GP-Deeptone rear muffler, and a carbon fiber intake system. The total of those mods includes the aforementioned 690 hp, as well as 619 pound-feet of torque – a huge upgrade over the stock 479 lb-ft.G-PowerAs you can imagine, that's not going to be cheap and, of course, customers will need an M2 to modify. All the ingredients for the package to go faster are required, including an ECU unlock that G-Power will perform for 595 euros, which is just over $680. All in, it looks to be $25,000 and change for the upgrade. Also, you'll want to budget for increasing the top speed (or V-max). V-max is the latest term some automakers are using to state the artificial speed limit on their cars without saying that the top speed is limited. It just means maximum velocity.G-Power If you're spending that kind of money on an M2 to make that much power, you'll want the fancy GP-Venturi carbon hood as well for an extra $7,000.Essentially, the GP-Venturi hood creates dynamic venting by using venturi nozzles to extract heat from the engine bay when needed. Of course, it's also made of carbon fiber for weight saving, and can be finished in the car's body color if you don't want to cosplay as a time attack racer. Saying that, we wouldn't actually blame anyone for going for the clear coat option. The BMW M2 SupercarThe BMW M2 is very much a niche enthusiast car compared with the larger M3 and M4, both of which G-Power supplies the same engine upgrade for. For BMW, it doesn't necessarily make financial sense to crank the corporate handle necessary to put out a hardcore M2 CSL version. That's why tuners like G-Power exist, and close to 700 horsepower puts the M2 in supercar territory – something BMW would likely never do with a series-production automobile.G-PowerWhere this becomes more interesting is in the fact that an all-wheel-drive M2 xDrive is all-but officially confirmed for this year. Rear-wheel-drive in such a small car is going to struggle for grip off the line in a big way. Add it to an all-wheel-drive M2 and it's still going to be one hell of a handful, but should turn it into something that will outright embarrass some supercars off the line while also being an absolute hoot on a back road or at the track.
