Through just six months of 2026, it has already logged 826.To be fair, raw crash totals do not prove Autopilot or FSD are getting worse per mile. More Teslas on the road, more FSD subscriptions, and more engaged miles can all push the total higher even if the rate improves. However, that is exactly where Tesla's opacity becomes the story. Tesla does not publish verified, independently auditable miles-driven data for Autopilot and FSD, meaning the public cannot check.As a result, the record is both alarming and frustratingly incomplete. It is entirely possible the per-mile crash rate is falling. It is also possible it is not. The public file cannot answer that, and Tesla is the only party holding the data needed to settle the argument.In contrast, Tesla is very consistent about what it chooses not to show. Tesla has redacted the narrative on 99.9 percent of its 3,763 crash reports every year since 2019, citing confidential business information. If the system is improving, Tesla should be able to show that with auditable rates and readable reports. Instead, the public gets record counts, blacked-out narratives, and a brand name that continues to run ahead of the legal reality: this is still Level 2, and the driver is still responsible.
