Subaru’s Latest WRX Special Edition Picks Up an STI-Like WingRoad & TrackFred SmithTue, September 22, 2026 at 4:36 PM UTCAdd us on GoogleSubaru Gives the WRX a Wing, Not an STI BadgeSubaruSubaru is now more than four years into a generation of WRX launched without plans for an all-out STI model. Those years have been marked by a constant stream of new trim levels, special editions, and concepts that come just a bit closer to what an STI of the current WRX would be, but none have actually resulted in a full production run of more serious WRXs boasting Subaru's most significant performance badge. And on September 27th, it seems Subaru will be revealing another such special edition. The company says that the next WRX special edition, plus a new special edition of the BRZ, will be shown off on Sunday at Boxerfest in Pennsylvania. We have no details of what these special editions might actually be—just the date of their reveal, and one teaser photo of the WRX. Fortunately, that photo showcases at least one major STI feature actually working its way back into the WRX lineup.Yes, that is a massive rear wing on the back of a WRX tS. The simple black central supports make it look more like an aftermarket wing than the larger, body-color unites typically integrated into STI models, but it at least marks the return of a prominent aero feature to the decklid of the otherwise-more-conservative WRX.AdvertisementAdvertisementWe will have to wait for Sunday to see more and to see anything of the BRZ. Given that the wing seems to be a highlight of the still-unnamed WRX model, it seems likely that a similar feature will grace the back of the two-door, too.You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
